Frequently I see "lol" used as as sort of point of emphasis to something that is either funny, not funny (but seemingly intended to be funny), and used even when the answer or comment is supposed to be serious. I would like to take a poll to see if perhaps "lol" could be changed to something else. Are there any suggestions? How about "llah" (laughing like a hyena)?

The point is that it seems to be way overused and is irritating to a degree, sort of like the way "actually" is used, such as; I actually like the movie. It actually had some exciting scenes and was actually better than I thought it would actually be. Folks, if you are in the habit of using that expression, please find some other word to replace that one for, for your own sake and for the sake of the more impressionably minded.

LOL has become a convention, a useful shorthand way of expressing humor (real or imagined). Back in the day, people would write HA HA to indicate the above. Some day there will be some other indicator, but whether it turns out to be the reference to the animal with the creepy cry, well, ICRS!

I really don't care for any of them but I have to put them in so people who are lacking a sense of humor know when I am joking. So sure I will try it out if it makes u happy. llah works for me

yeah thats a gud 1!!!! Lol really annoys me 2! I see no need for it at all!! Heres some of my suggestions:

lmso (laughing my socks off)
rotfwl (rolling on the floor with laughter)
fyrf (find you really funny)

But even these sound stupid! I think txt msgs should be written without adding in these silly comments! x

I just recently learned through "Answers" what "lol" means. I began using it too, when I think something's funny or cute. If yall come up with another word, I guess I'll figure it out. LOL!

Hm. As long as we're changing the ways of the all mighty internet..

LOL = Look Out [for] Lolipops

or..

ROFL = Rats often fake love. ;~;

orrrrrrr..

LMFAO = Look mother f***er, apple oops. =3

Yeah, I'm way to tired to be doing this.

I like "lol". It softens a remark that might seem harsh.

I guess you could type "grin" or "laughs" or "giggles"... etc.
