I hired these film makers to assist me in my making a short film.
The first day they were late. An hour late.
I e-mail them and I don't get a response. Or, very little.
I was promised an edited 1st draft of my film yesterday and they never e-mailed it to me. They didn't even e-mail me to say why they are not ready.
I email them suggestions with no response.
I am never working with these people again! Is this total lack of respect and professionalism on their part?

Well first of all what was their references that you hired them in the first place? Yes very unprofessional.
Send them a letter by registered mail(it means they have to sign for it) tell them if they do not answer you with in 24 hours of receipt of this letter you want all your film back since they breeched their contract( even if it wasn't down on paper it was verbal you needed their help).
If they don't return your stuff sue them for the max allowed in small claims court which I think is 5000 dollars, its easy to do, this just go down to the court house fill in the paperwork. The court will send someone out to tell them they are being sued. Make them pay court costs, if it goes that far too. Make sure you have witness's and paperwork to back your claims.

They dont sound like they understand the requirements of a client based business. Communications with the customer is the first and foremost rule.
I would suggest not using nor recommending them, again. I am sorry you ran into these types that give the industry a bad name.

No, I would not consider their conduct professional. Good help is hard to find. Try asking around trusted contacts for a referral to someone with a prov en track record.

Working late is not professional. Maybe you told them the wrong time unintentionally. They are probably mad at you for some reason. Maybe you paid them $8/hr or they are so arrogant that they think your a jerk for invading their "authority". Maybe they think your film is unimportant. There got to be a reason.

You are right. I would also spread the word about them. This is VERY unprofessional, not to mention completely uncaring. If they are this uncaring in the way they do business it makes you wonder how good the quality of their craft is.
