To me withdrawn people are either raised that way, shy, or a significant event happend in their life that made socializing a last resort. I respect a person that does not want to interact with others, all in all we are all different and we all have something to learn from each other. If the person is happy to be withdrawn then there is not much others can do. However if it is noticeable that the person is a bit disturbed or shy, then that is the time that you can introduce yourself and maybe understand why the person is that way. In the end, you can't force everyone to be the same :)

Introverts are not lesser than Extroverts. I happen to be a member of the later group, but know many from the first group. I think these people are just more thoughtful (or dare I say considerate?) of others. For example, how many times have you witnessed a withdrawn person rush to judgment?

I do not think they are selfish. Could be they do not speak because they do not have anything to say, or possibly not sure how to say it. Going back to my original premise, they do not feel the urgency to say anything like Extroverts do.

Absolutly not. I think being open or not has no connection of being a complete humen being or not . I dont think a shy/less talktative person is always quiet because s/he doesnt have anything to say;rather the person might just have the deeper knowledge of silence being a wiser form of socializing. There are two ways of having your presence being felt; by talking away so people learn to avoid (/not listen) to you, or by speaking when needed so people learn to appreciate what you say. lol..seems I'm taking the introverts' side..but yes, quiet people might also be quiet because they know the truths which can hurt everyone else's lies ;)
ps> nice question

I see them the same way that I see everyone else.

Most withdrawn people are just uncomfortable in social situations. They usually have good reasons for being the way that they are.

no, i dont think of them that way, some people are more withdrawn, some more outgoing, we dont have a right to tell others how they should be, nor demand they try to fit into our version of what is right!
while a person may choose to speak to others, to fit into what the current society they live in finds acceptable, they are not born with a obligation to do so

I'm withdrawn person myself. I don't very often socialize with many people, however, i have few friends.

Withdrawn people are human beings. Wether they withdraw because they are doing something. Also depends on person. VA Tech and Columbine guys were withdrawn and anti-social, as well. so i 2 edged sword

1. It's hard to speak, sometimes, when other people are talking over each other.
2. Speaking is too much work.
3. People will listen to you if you're not constantly trying to get your piece in.

So, thats it I think.
