Understand that I'm one of those in the office who others ask about spelling questions. I pride myself on being a good speller.
There are certain words, though, that I ALWAYS have trouble with.
My number one Nemesis? Rhythm...and I had to look it up to make sure I spelled it correctly just now!
Oh, by extension, this means I always have trouble with the music group Eurythmics too (but I looked it up!). lol
What about you? Do you have a "mental block" on certain words too? It's okay if you misspell your word, we're all friends here!

Unless you work at the CDC, I'm not sure how often that lung disease one comes up in everyday usage!
I was aiming for ones that are a little more commonly used. lol

Oh, yeah. "Foreign" is one of those words I have to really think about. And there are some days, I just plain have trouble typing "the." Thank goodness for spell checkers!

I have trouble with "ence" and "ance", too. And just as much trouble with "ible" and "able". No matter what kind of rule you learn, there are always exceptions.
When I was young, I actually knew all these spellings, but as one ages, perhaps those things are relegated to noise level. I do, however, keep a copy of "Webster's new World Speller/Divider" next to my computer. It's a truly remarkable little book. "The 39,000 most needed words, spelled and syllabified."

Despite having studied Latin (too many years ago), I have a persistent problem with words ending in 'ence' and 'ance' (or 'ent' and 'ant'). I was browsing once in a bookstore and found a book that was supposed to improved your spelling. I turned to the index, and, sure enough, there was the entry 'ence and ance,' so I turned to the page with high expectations and found "There is no reliable way to distinguish words ending in 'ence' from words ending in 'ance.' " I didn't buy the book, so I can't list it under Sources.

lol u'd not believe it but my first one is rythem =)) LMAO and the fact is i m saying it just the way i spelled it right now lol not even looking at the spelling typed by u hehehee and it's at times ecstacy, it feels so lousy dude coz even I am asked by people for the right spellings and i am good with the spellings to a very very good extent but just a word here n there and these 2 seem to crawl up on my nerves lol.
I some how end up looking up the word rythm so many times that i feel like a moron at times to be so at loss at this one particular word.

The older I get, the worse my spelling becomes. I have a mental block about across and address - no idea why.
