Actually, there are at least two possible answers:
1) "tittle"
- a term that can be used for various small diacritics (that is, marks used to distinguish letters, words, etc)
- comes from Latin "titulus", referring to something written on top, and the same word from which we get "title"

The dot over the i or j is called a tittle. In grammatical terms, it is a diacritic. A diacritic over any letter, as an accent or vowel mark, may also be called a tittle.
