Joseph Campbell said that there is no meaning to life. Lots of people believe we're here to "serve the Lord". Buddhists consider things in terms of non-meaning. I'm inclined to rely on some preexisting definition of life's meaning. Apparently, the answer to your question would be that it depends on who you ask. So, here's my answer: Life is like a painting that only the artist can interpret. You are the artist.

Real meaning comes from living for a real purpose. The very definition of purpose requires an intelligent plan and a Planner.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (20th century philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate)

"Joseph Campbell said that there is no meaning to life." If there is no God, there is no meaning. But our human nature won't allow us to think that our lives have no meaning and even if there is no real source of meaning, we'll invent something that gives us pleasant feelings, e.g. "make a difference in the world", and pretend that it is what we were created for.

It makes sense to me that, if our Creator exists, then He must have put our great need for meaning into our human nature in order to point us to seek Him.
