Is there any truth to the story told by Tomb Raider Lara Croft in the movie The Cradle of life? Or is that just the movie version? Any truth?

It's just a version adapted for the movie, look for books on Greek Mythology in your local library for the actual tales and variations of it.

"In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth. Zeus ordered Hephaestus, the god of craftsmanship, to create her and he did, using water and earth. The gods endowed her with many talents; Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo music, Hermes persuasion, and so forth. Hence her name: Pandora, "all-gifted".

When Prometheus stole fire from heaven, Zeus took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Epimetheus, Prometheus' brother. With her, Pandora had a jar which she was not to open under any circumstance. Impelled by her natural curiosity, Pandora opened the jar, and all evil contained escaped and spread over the earth. She hastened to close the lid, but the whole contents of the jar had escaped, except for one thing which lay at the bottom, and that was Hope."

Here are all the old Greek versions of the story.

The oldest and most famous is by Hesiod, C7th B.C. In his story Pandora is the first woman created by the gods to punish man for stealing fire from the gods. The gods gave her in marriage to the creator of men (Epimetheus) & gave her a large pottery storage jar (not a box). When she opened this "wedding gift" all the evils were released which plague mankind.

You can go to Wikipedia. The real myth describes Zeus, leader of the gods, angry at mortal for following Promethus and sending a dangerous gift to them....a woman. He also sent her a box and told her not to open it, but her curiosity got the best of her and she opened it and released all the evils of mankind unto the world, but there was something at the very bottom of the box that made everything beetter...hope. And with hope, humans can truly survive another day on this planet.
