Why does it seem the majority of country music is right-wing? Aren't there any progressive country singers out there?

In news interviews with numerous big name stars, they have said that being patriotic means supporting the president and troops no matter what. There are other ways of being patriotic that do not include supporting corrupt administrations and unjust wars.

I wonder if you remember the Dixie Chicks. There are plenty of Democrats that are "country", but you do have a point. Country fans tend to be conservative because they tend to be for more traditional, older values, that have been around for a while. Being a "liberal" in country music is unusual because there is pressure not to be. Strangely, ask most country fans what they think of the government and the response is frequently "I don't trust them". Its a weird mixed-bag, because you are dealing with a lot of people.

There a very few ways of being patriotic and not supporting the troops or the war.
Most Country Music listeners are from the rural areas and have the feeling of responsibility for their own actions and safety. Remember, ALL of the troops are volunteers !!!
Any right thinking person will understand that the Left Wing whiners are NOT the majority !!!!!!!! There are many more folks in rural areas than in the big cities, so we rule... not the democraps !!!!!!

Like saying you support the troops while you run them down? Making comments like I support the troops but we can't win because we aren't good enough. Yeah that is supporting the troops. The President is the Commander in Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces. That is all the support they mean in having to support him. Would you run down a 5 Star General and talk about how you support the troops. I admit the General earned the rank BUT the point is if you are cutting down the superior officer then you aren't supporting the troops. Now I don't know who all you are hearing interviewed but some have been that way for quite awhile. Like Charlie Daniels. Face it though, Country music is in general the music of the common, blue-collar people, and contrary to what the media WANTS you to believe America supports the war.

Oh and I just want to point out by supporting the war in general I mean WE understand that we can't just leave. We went over there, took out their leader(who in the end deserved to be removed but so do many others and that is another debate) and now we have to keep the country straightened back out. If you had a baby and it couldn't walk at birth you wouldn't abandon it. You would wait until it devoloped and help it learn to walk and talk.

supportign the troops is not supporting a war. I personaly did not believe in the Iraw war but I support our troops. I have adopted three soldeirs and wrtie them letters, send them packages, etc. I help out by getting the troops phone card so they can call home and speak with their families, and that is what i think the musicians mean-they must support our troops.

Well, that is not true. Why do you think this. Country music is patriotic, but that does not imply they are right wing, unless you are saying that democrats cannot be patriotic. There are some country musicians who have are one way, like Sara Evans and Brooks and Dunn-both are republicans, but Toby Keith, is actually a democratic, with conservative values. I think you just think country music si right wing because you look at the patriotism and immedialtly think republican party. Which is very ignorant
and i agree wth Gwen. Supporting our troops is different than the war. country artist support the troops. they play for them, and help keep their morale high. the soldiers just do what they are told and they shou;d be supported. I also have adopted soldiers, whuch means i write to them, send them things they need. etc.
and you need to remeber that country music covers a huge amount of people and they range from the liberal northeast to the conservative midwest to the liberal west. There are conservative and liberal fans of the music.
