Players get suspended because of stupid things they do, not what they say. Sure Portis is an idiot for saying that, but you cannot start censoring what the players says unless it calls into question the integrity of the game, i.e an officials call or game's outcome.
As for why it seems that most players who are getting suspended are black, it is because primarily of two things.
1. The majority of the players in the NFL are black. It stands for good reason that the probability that a black player gets suspended is high when the majority is black.
2. The black players in the league seem to grow up in a completely different environment than the other players. They grow up in inner city areas where morals, ethics and the way of life are much different than what the public wants them to be. They grow up around violence, drugs, and many of them are raised in single parent homes, usually without a father figure or someone to discipline them. Then when they find out they are good at playing football, the coaches and the community shower them with praise and overlook their transgressions at a young age, typically high school. Then they go to college where it is a bigger business and their celebrity escalates as long as their talent goes along with it without learning how to conduct themselves in a professional manner. By the time they reach the pros, they are spoiled and disobedient, and then they become rich.

I hadn't heard this but when I read this post I 'googled' him and found his comment. I also read the comments other fans posted in regard to his remark. And they are not kind to Clinton Portis. I wonder if he has been entertaining himself with Michael Vick's dogfighting enterprise?
Deion Sanders wrote a ridiculous column about Michael Vick as well. I am really surprised at Deion, as I am a very big fan of his.
How could anyone think it is ok to treat a living being the way these dogs were treated and abused is beyond comprehension.
But you also need to read the Eric Dickerson article in regard to Michael Vick, I think you can find it on ESPN website. It is very insightful, and man, have I gained alot of respect for this man. Please don't condemn ALL blacks because of what a few have done. There are lots of Eric Dickersons out there. So many blacks are good people who have succeeded in their field and done good things with that success. Warrick Dunn, here in Atlanta for one. He has really put his money to good use.
I hate to see the upstanding good black citizens suffer for what the others, like Michael Vick, have done.

I heard that he basically said that what Michael Vick does on HIS property with HIS dogs is HIS business...I also heard that he later recanted that statement.
Will he get suspended? No.
Do more players get suspended b/c they're African-American? No. more players get suspended b/c they break league rules and/or city/state/federal laws.
To say that there are more African-American knuckleheads in the NFL is just wrong...being a knucklehead has nothing to do with the color of your skin.
As to your last statement, I suppose it is possible, although I haven't seen any statistics to back it up. As an example, though, if you look at Major League Baseball, the majority of rosters are comprised of Caucasian and Latino players. With this in mind, if you look at the list of players who have been suspended for steroid use, the vast majority are Caucasian or Latino.

No, he made some dumb comments defending Vick and dogfighting. He retracted the statement the next day. He won't get suspending or anything. The fans may give him an earful for a little while. But nothing serious. There's white knuckleheads in the league too, like Romanowski and Barret Robbins, there's just a higher percentage of black players. There's a lot of good players and role models in the league too. They just don't get the attention.

portis is a typical nfl hoodlum and goodell better do something about the problem players or the nfl is doomed
so far the commissioner has had a double standard on vick but he or the falcons need to do something soon or they will have a problem with suspending other nfl players

Clinton Portis is a complete idiot! How this guy went to college I will never know. And yes it is because there are is a much bigger percentage of blacks so there for that is why you see more getting in trouble. It's like they say most accidents occur within 5 miles of your home well DUH you spend the most time driving within 5 miles of your home!

More black knuckleheads because they have a higher percentage in the League. I don't think there are that many when you go by percentage of compared to the number of players and all in ratio. Anyway he isn't getting suspended. That was what a couple months ago, and he apolgized for the whole comment.

The NFL is 80% black.. So, yes it seems that way..
But, if Mike Vick and Pacman Jones are acting like idiots isn't because there black.. Its because there IDIOTS.. lol
Color has nothing to do with it.. There are losers and idiots and worse than that in all races...

Suspended? If he did come out with a statement, he probably will get indicted, or at least a subpoena to appear as a witness.
The guy really ain't to bright, as you probably know!
