Electricity-turn off whatever appliances are not in use, especially things like lights, air conditioners, space heaters, fans...Only run the washing machine when you have a FULL LOAD(this applies to water conservation as well)
Food-PUBLIC MARKETS for fresh produce. Usually much better for you anyway! You can sometimes find great deals on day-old breads, and occasionally HOME MADE breads. There is occasionally a fish market, too, where you can get good deals, and freeze portions. Meat markets usually have freezer deals(I suggest getting an Energy Star deep freezer, even if just a small one)so you can get all your meats in bulk. Stock up on freezer bags!!!
Water- I know it's kinda gross, but it is money saving...When it comes to your toilet(this is why it has a lid), "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flushshit down!" Don't leave the water running when you brush your teeth. When washing dishes, fill the sink half full with soapy water, and do quick rinses after you finish cleaning a dish. Limit shower time to 10 minutes(Ladies-20 if shaving!) Don't water your driveway(I HATE seeing people wasting water this way!!! It is going to get dirty in about a nanosecond!)
And also, ALWAYS RECYCLE YOUR METALS, PLASTICS, AND PAPERS whenever possible!

1.Avoid unneccessary spending such as eating out. I always allow myself only once a month eating out/take away. It forces me to learn how to cook and it saves me about £10 every time.
2. cutting down on alcohol and cigarrettes. I only go out to drink when there is an occasion. I don't do "down the pub for 2 hours for two pints" anymore. I have a couple of cans instead. By smoking half the cigarettes that you usually do will save you half the money you spend on cigarettes. Eventually you might be off it completely!!! like I did and saved myself £50 a month.that is £600 a year!!!
3. I have started to buy a lot more 2nd hand stuff since a year ago and it is amzing how much you would save yourself (t-shirts, shirts, sweat shirts, jeans, jacket, computer, books). Ebay is a great example of it. you could get some bargains out of it. For a start you wouldn't have to pay any VAT!!!
4. this is quite important. NEVER SPEND MONEY THAT YOU DON'T HAVE. Apart from mortgage or car payment, there shouldn't be any debt. If there is then clear them as quickly as possible. The best way to clear your debt is by "SNOWBALLING". Give that a search on the computer with "debt" and "finance" you should find out the ins and outs
of this method.
5. "pay yourself first". I have 10% of my income directly taken out of my bank every month straight into a savings account before I pay my rent and any bills. I basically force myself to save that money. It is what other professionals would tell you to do and it works.

Always check the fliers in the papers, often times when the sunday paper comes out the grocery stores will have those items on sale, and with the coupon you can save.
I went to K-mart yesterday, buy one pair of sandals get one free. Kids clearence rack had clothes 75% off. Never pay full price!
Watch the gas pumps, if it drops down 3-4 cents , fill it up.
Alot of store brands are very close in quality, like canned foods, store brand milk, eggs, bread. However, somethings are not the same like cereal, papertowels, toilet paper, you have to use more so you save nothing.
Shampoo, like Suave , the new ones that say same as paul Mitchell etc are excellent and 3 dollars a bottle cheaper.
Try Wal Mart or the Dollar Store for cookies, juices, snacks, brand names, lower prices.
Save on car insurance by shopping around when it is time to renew. We become complacient and let the rates go up but remain loyal to the same company. We just switched, same coverage 310.00 a year cheaper.
Wal Mart has the $4.00 drug program, pick up a list and if you go to the doc take it with you to see if he can subsitute meds.
Turn your hot water tank down 10 degrees to save money on electric. Leave your tv on, it takes more energy to turn it on and off and is better for the tv.
Rinse your dishes in cold water, wash them, stack them in the other side of the sink, then rinse, instead of running water the entire time you do dishes.
If you have kids and have a kiddie pool, use that water to water your plants.
Do your laundry all on one day, once the dryer has heated up it stays hotter, therefore, less drying time for subsiquent loads.
I could go on and on, I am very thrifty, I have my electric bill down to 78 dollars a month, and I live in Florida with the air on all the time.
Hope I didn't bore you!
Also bundle your internet , phone, cable. I had internet and phone thru one provider and cable thru another, when I combined I saved 140 dollars a month. And don't rent movies, get the premium channels , the more you lump together the cheaper the plan. Wait for the movies to come out on HBO or Showtime, cheaper than renting in the long run.

1. I stopped driving my beautiful premium guzzler, and started to drive my little regular gasser.
2. Food. I prepare large amounts of foods I like that can be frozen. Then freeze smaller portions. That way I don't use as much cooking time in general.
3. I am having a well dug on my property to water from. I really believe that water will be a money issue in the future.
4. I do not have cable. I read, go online, or paint among other projects for enjoyment.

Wow, I learned a lot by reading others answers, stars to all. Saving anywhere saves all are resource. Avoid medical bills by staying fit, walk, take the steps, schools have swimming pools and classes for adults - they also have services in which to learn skills to save money, use light weights when watching TV, learn a few yoga poses. Food: buy a rotisserie chicken, remove the meat and make several meals -stir fry's, chicken salad, cook additional food when heating oven for meals throughout the week, oatmeal for breakfast, eggs are great for many meals, don't buy soda, don't buy bottle water - use a water filter, re-use zip lock bags, use plastic grocery bags as garbage bags, women exchange clothing with other women for special functions, buy quality (won't have to replace as often), save receipt/return purchase if anything goes wrong, use curtains-blinds to keep the room cool and heat in in winter, put a pan of water on radiators - makes a great humidifier, Enjoy your life, socializing - go to happy hour where they have free food and inexpensive drinks, library rent movies and books, take out a book on how to save.

Try using natural products for cleaning.
For example, all you need is one big bottle of tee tree oil, about $3, and a few spray bottles, you dilute 10 parts water to 1 part oil. This is the best disinfectant for the kitchen & bathroom, and is also a "must have" in any 1st aid kit.
Also, raw ingredients are much cheaper then buying pre-made foods [more work though!]

Yes store brand foods can be cheaper. Keep all lights off in the daytime and only keep the necessary appliances plugged in, water the lawn only if necessary. travel to and from work by walking or bike if you don't live too far away from your job. You might also walk to the market when you have just a few small items to purchase.

I've started bringing my lunch to work instead of eating out all the time. And I've checked into lowering my auto insurance. I try to use a fan if possible instead of the AC, and I leave the windows closed to not let in the heat.
