Think about this before you attack me for anti-patriotism. lol.

Our dollar is sinking, the almighty Euro is rising. There are other places outside of the US where it's actually BETTER to live, with nicer people, a better pace of life, where people aren't all multi-tasking, and being cut-throat, materialistic jerks, where you actually matter, instead of being a statistic feeding into a capitalism consumer machine. Where terrorists aren't focusing on your country especially, and racism/hate exist as extreme as they do here, and people are more real and also not brainwashed by the media, plastic surgery etc, where you can grow old and actually get respected, instead of having to be ridiculed or passed off as "over."

This country is f'ed up, big time and places like Australia, Europe, parts of Asia, and South America actually beat it, for quality of life-wise.

Not all parts of the US are bad, but as a collective whole it isn't what it used to be.

Why put up with this?

Also, I didn't mean those continents in general, I meant certain locations on them. Personally, I love Australia/New Zealand.

US seems to be all hype/money and business. It's evil, at least spirituality/religion wise.

If there actually WAS a God, this country goes against every holy principle that would exist lol.

It's not a pretty place. It's become a rushy, angry, superficial place.

I mean come on. People like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan are WORSHIPPED here.

Fakeness and meanness as long as you have money are also respected here.

Being nice is stepped on. NIce guy finishes last thing, etc.

America expects and almost prepares you to be a cut-throat jerk.

How is this a GOOD thing?

No wonder this country is going down the tube.

And with this mental outlook, I can't see it getting better either.

We honestly deserve a huuuuuge enema for being the backwards jerks that we are.

You bring up an interesting point, because the United States used to be the freest country, the country with the highest quality of life, and it is no longer in the top spot. It is also a rather dangerous country with higher rates of violence and crime than most of Europe, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, the majority of Caribbean countries, even Costa Rica.

So while it is still a great country and a great economic machine, it has been surpassed in those terms: namely freedom, safety and quality of life. Things change. You can't expect to be the best forever. To think the US is still the freest country in the world is delusional.

But I am very much a patriot. I love my country. I don't take your criticism personally because I do my part to make things better. It's not too late to make a turnaround and become a freer country--legalizing same sex marriage would be a start in catching up with the rest of the free world--but in terms of catching up in safety and quality of life, that is much harder to accomplish.

Why don't you join me in helping? Do your part and don't worry so much. Keep your focus. It's a lot easier to change one person (you) than to change the whole world or the whole country.

I certainly agree that the USA is not what it used to be. When I make a business call, I would like to speak with someone who I can understand. Outsourcing is very bothersome to me, but not so much so that I would move to another country.
The issues you point out are valid but if you talk to people from other countries, I'm sure some will have negative feelings toward their own (home)country. As far as being brainwashed by the media, not everyone feeds into the hype that's put out there. This is where people must be able to think for themselves.
Also, people risk their lives, die every single day trying to get to the USA. But we don't see people rushing to leave this country; people hide their entire families to avoid deportation from the USA. They would rather live here as illegal aliens, than leave! You don't have to "put up with this", as you are free to come and go as you please. You may be unhappy, but there are many more who are glad to be here.

In my 20+ years in the U.S. Navy, I've been to over 30 countries (some more than once)and stationed in 3. I could not imagine living an most of those countries for many different reasons. Even with our many problems of racism, poverty, crime, etc, America has the most freedoms and offer more opportunities to live a successful life than any other country in the world.
If you don't want to 'put up with this', go to Uganda, China, Malaysia, India, Cuba, Brazil, Guatemala, Japan...live there for a while then come on home with your tail between your legs.

America's trying to be the best country in the world, so they try to put all kinds of things into your mind, like drugs are bad, sex before marriage is bad, etc, and yet what is happening is exactly the opposite of what's supposed to be happening - the drug abuse rate is higher than in any other developed country, so is the teen pregnancy rate. America's border security is the highest, in no other country have I seen people being asked to fill out US customs forms or immigration forms before they even get off the airplane, and yet more and more people are getting illegally across the "secure" border. The legal drinking age is 21, unlike any other country, and yet not only does every teenager I know drink, but they smoke, too. In other countries, if you say, I smoke, you obviously smoke cigarettes. In America, if you say I smoke, what do you smoke? It's supposed to be a free country, and yet nobody lets you do anything; you can get sued for wearing two different kinds of socks on your feet, you accidentally bang your door into another person's car, and they sue you immediately, which they can't do in any other country because nobody's going to listen to them. There are so many laws that are actually trying to secure our freedom. Listen to yourself. You make LAWS to ensure FREEDOM. That's like saying, let's put you in prison so you can walk around FREELY in your cell. What are you free to do in America? America has the strongest army in the world because in no other country do so many people ever feel the need to kill people they don't even know. You can get drafted at 18 and they make you kill innocent people, but you can't have a drink of beer.

Another thing is, why do you think there are so many gay people in America, and why do you think it's such a big problem in this country? I think people should start handing out free condoms to passersby on the street, like they once did in New York.

And in this stinking forum, you can't even say the word f'uck, even jokingly, without getting reported.

And let's not talk about freedom of speech.

You do make an interesting point, stick to your guns because some people will never accept the truth.

I think about those women-(I'm not picking on women I just can't think of any men situations)
that say I'm going to stick by my man....
I translate that mean: "I'm going to stick by my man No Matter How STUPID HE IS."

I think that being a citizen is like being a partner, IMO. I will work to improve the things that need improving, battle the injustices, work to keep the rights and hopefulness that I think mark our country. I won't jump ship, but I don't blame others for wanting to move someplace else.

I smile when I think of "patriots" who bristle at any insight into the issues that affect all Americans, but it's their right to rant just as it is mine to speak my truth.
