Does everyone feel like I do that racists need to be educated and exposed to other cultures to open their minds and heart?

The racists I have heard are not well educated sorry I do not agree it usually comes from people in small towns. Its usually bent up anger these people feel and direct it towards minorities.

Anglo-celtic you wrote me in my email. You cannot blame anyone but yourself for dropping out of high school. Now I understand why when I read all the hateful things you write about minorities its because you are stuck in poverty. Rise up and go to school. Only then will the hate come out of your heart and mind.

She didn't say anything about only white people being racist...so read before you bash her.

I agree with the questioner, however.

Good morning BLB....Society has tolerated this issue because it was society that started the problem from the beginning. It's called Racial Ignorance. Society has stereotyped individuals from different cultures and race for centuries and it will continue. It's pathetic, but how does one change ignorance if society doesn't want to change for the better? The ideal of teaching one to change and to be educated so one won't be racist is a good thought but realistically speaking it won't happen. Society can't or won't change how they feel. One is taught racism when they are a child from their parent or friend or co-worker and so forth. One needs to start the teaching process at an early age. Racism shouldn't be tolerated by any individual. Freedom of speech has it's boundaries and when this amendment was written or law, whichever...there should have been certain clauses to where an individual could not slander another for their race or origin. So since this wasn't an issue when the Freedom of Speech was written then one has the right so do speak to voice their opinion. Now I don't agree with this but until our government realizes that racism rules in our own government then I don't see any change soon on the Freedom of Speech being revised for the better. We can try to educate our children at home and this will help some of the problems but change won't occur unless society wants to change. Have a wonderful day and good luck with your answers.

we live in a country (assuming the us) where we are free to think, feel and speak freely. thought and words should be tolerated, it is our right. when it becomes a physical aspect, that's where the line is drawn. your suggestion is nice, but trying to educate and expose these bigots would be like trying to convince christians there is no god. it just will not work.

A lot of racists are very well educated. Being racist is a choice. There are a lot of nebulous variables involved in how data is structured for the purpose of creating socially acceptable reasons to be a racist. None of them are acceptable to me. Insecurity is insecurity, no matter who it manifests in. Bottom line.

It seems racists control the board. I have gotten violation notices for responding to racist posts and my post removed BUT the racist question remained.
Yahoo needs to learn how to IP ban.

Everyone has some form of bigotry. Anyone who says they don't, is lying. Not to say I don't agree with you about people throwing really racist remarks out there.

Mankind is fallen. The whole world is under the influence of sin. Christians on the Religion section face more prejudice than anyone.

that is there choice it is their life and there loss if they choose to remain limited...the trick is not to get caught up in judgment and become intolerant yourself tolerance is a circle you can not say you are tolerant of one thing that does not bother you much and then decide not to tolerate something that bothers you
