Let's say the wife is loving, attractive and the mother of his children and a situation came up that offered an "opportunity", so he took it knowing full well that his wife would never find out. Do you consider this man to be a scumbag?

The statistics are staggering of men who cheat at least once in a marriage. If we know it's going to happen, why must we force a situation that only spells bitterness and a definition of "scumbag"? In this, I mean that if you know your man is going to cheat (and I assume you love him) then why must the first and only option be instant divorce and hatred? If the statistics prove true then perhaps the immediate assumption of "you are not good enough", "he doesn't love me" and "he is a bastard" may not necessarily be true?

We don't live isolated on a farm fighting the elements with a lifespan of 50 years anymore. Very few labor, hard task work, to scrape together a living. Our entire society has changed - trying to force a romantic notion from an archaic time into today's world is insane.

I think you've lost your reason if your first reaction is: scumbag. It breaks my heart to see the level of divorce, the raw sense of betrayal, how couples are naive in an otherwise sophisticated society.
Grow up and look around, folks, it's a different world than the one your grandparents lived in.

Look at Victorian times when society allowed a mistress and a wife. They often knew each other! Men were not considered pigs for doing so.
Let's stop calling it "cheating" and using the word "scumbag", it's a false conclusion and unfair to all sides of any situation. This does not mean that, simple enough.

you cant answer this Q with a yes or no there is to much grey area there are many different reasons why men cheat ,if the sex at home is not as frequent as you would like, maybe your just not attracted to her anymore, maybe he is feeling like less of a man because something happened, the male ego is a very fragile thing and is easily damaged although none of these are excuses, to a man who thinks his life is over (married to the same person )these are very real points but to answer your question no I don't think he is a scumbag if it only happens once but if he looks at it like its an opportunity he will probably do it again also if he does this the decent thing to do would be to tell his wife because there are bigger problems with the marriage than just a little sex.

if you have never been married or you are a woman you will never be able to understand why men do this .

Opportunity... interesting choice of word
the only opportunity it created was for this man to join the Scumbag League of Cheating Men

I hope he thinks it was worth it... cause it is just a matter of time till his wife finds out, because he will never be able to take this secret to the grave with him,

Yes. When you marry, you've made a vow to be with that woman forever and ever ... "as long as you both shall live". Once he breaks it, he's much more than a scumbag, but I'll leave it at the imagination.

I am not a man. But yes, he is a scumbag with no discipline or self control.

I can only agree with what Ross Perot used to say about it, whenever he learned of an employee's infidelity which is, "If his wife can't trust him, I certainly can't." This of course led to some unceremonious terminations of employment but it was his company to run as he saw fit.

Marriage isnt natural and so men AND women will always want to cheat. BUT thats why we have brains, to actively defy our impulses cuz WE SHOULD KNOW bBETTER. so even though i believe marriage isnt right, cheating men are still scum.
