They should be used to back up the points you are making. Make sure that you properly cite them according to whatever format your teacher wants you to use, and that you are explaining them and not simply sticking them in to make your paper longer.

Yes I would to emphasie a point you are making just be sure to cite it in the paper. Obviously it is a paper on a book so have a catchy opening paragraph and then go into your thesis stating the book. Then when you are citing quotes just say "on page 204 blah blah blah........

yes...actually it is known that quotes help lead your essay on...n r good for the overall appearance. But cite them n remember that it would be better to include them in a natural way....for example:
Therefore, this shows that "he had more strength in him than the others" (book name, pg no.)
This shows smoothness in your essay, rather than making your quote one whole sentence by itself.

As long as they are not long, it's useful to give examples of what you mean. I like it in book reviews when they praise the author for a special quality, and then give a fr'instance!

as long as you cite them as so. If this is HS - put quotations on them and say who said them. If this is college - ask how you are supposed to cite them (they are different styles.)

Make sure you acknowledge them correctly in your report's footnotes, and that is fine.
