I think it depends on your character. Some people seem to rise to the occasion, while others like me, need encouragement. So the fate that delivered me to an alcohlic, bad tempered, womanising father with bad parenting skills, and a bad tempered, religious fanatic, mean spirited mother, wasn't in a kind mood.
But others have risen above those drawbacks. I think we are who we are because of our childhood. Hence the importance of being responsible parents.

Interesting that so many think that they have no control over their choice of parents.
New age thinking says that we do chose our parents. The reasoning being that we are all looking for something which needs developing in ourselves, and we choose the parents to help us do this. Everything leads on from this I suppose.
We can also change ourselves in many ways, diet, excessive, rebuilding our thinking processes, but I must admit I wrestle with this notion. At the end of the day, we are what we are I suppose.
Looking back over my life, it seems that I made a lot of right decisions, but maybe they just seem right, maybe there were better ones I could have made.
It does seem that sometimes, something pushed me in the right direction, maybe fate who knows, maybe instinct. Everything is just a figment of my imagination anyway, I am the only reality.

I control as much as possible. "Fate" is the wrong word here. That implies some goddess ruling one's life. It is blind "circumstances", not conscious "fate" that determines much of one's life. I had no say over who were my parents or what my basic body structure would be. I did exercise and build up huge muscles, so that I am much bigger and stronger than I would have been if I hadn't taken charge. My brother was 6' 5.5", 225-235 lbs. usually, while I am 6' 1", 310-360 lbs. and can lift Bro overhead with one hand.

There is a lot of things that happen in one's life over which you have little control especially when you are younger and most of the decisions are out of your hands. How you deal with what life throws at you is where your fate lies. Ultimately it is in your own hands. As you get older you do have more control over events but things do happen, that life! I take full responsibility in those decisions I have taken in response to the unforeseen.

Actually, fate, circumstance, and blind luck have definitely played a part, for which I am grateful, as by the time I was in my 20's I realized how fortunate I was that my parents had not simply moved and neglected to leave a forwarding address!

Even when fate plays a big role, I take the responsibility. Fate is like this fact that: Fire burns.
I can burn some wood to cook something; I can burn myself ; I can set the whole jungle on fire. It is all my responsibility.
If today we have such a world, it's been the humans who did this. God granted us free will; we used it wrongly on some occasions!

I,m up in years and I,ve found that you gain wisdom as you get older. So many things have happened in my life that I never understood. Now when I look back, I can see a pattern of a perfect plan and instead of thinking of life as fate, I like to think of it as a pre-destiny.

I've learned to take 'fate' for granted. Both evil and good can orchestrate it. I'm responsible for anything that i do on porpoise. . . which is precious little.
Which is the most important leg on a three legged stool?

A little of both, actually. I aknowledge all the screw-ups I've made in life; the chances I've missed; the love I've lost and won; But I personally feel my life is overseen by something greater than myself and is leading to a definate conclusion beond my comprehension at this point.
