i drilled 1/2 bore and 1/2 plugs the plugs were too small

You are probably not using a drill press, a hand drill can wiggle around a bit making the hole bigger. Buy bigger plugs and sand them down so they fit the hole.

Drill the plugs larger and then sand down to the proper size.

They sell fractional drills which run in 64ths,try a couple in a piece of scrap until you achieve the fit your looking for.

measure them ,, alot of crap we are getting in the states is from china and metric doesnt cross exactly to american, while it is a 1/2 plug,, it probably will measure more accurately metric
