Either you have an american keyboard set to UK or a UK keyboard set to US

Start > Control panel
Regional & language options
languages tab
details
add

now add your new keyboard and remove the old one
reboot to delete the old one altogether.

I honestly have no idea what you could have done to your keyboard, nor was I able to find any sites that gave me any information on what to do, other than to unplug the keyboard, start up the computer, then shut it down again. Then plug the keyboard back in and start it up again. Let Windows find it and maybe this will reset it.

At the very worst, you might have to replace the keyboard, but I doubt if there is that much wrong with it, it's just as confused as you are. Good luck!

Your region settings have changed. If you are in the USA make sure your keyboard is set to the USA and not the UK.
