Ignorance is rampant - including in these answers.

First off an IQ is the result of a test. The test has been disputed for its validity over and over again. Two people with the same IQ can have very different abilities.

Although people with an IQ under 25 likely cannot read, they may very well be able to talk. Some people who are unable to talk because of the nature of their disability are inaccurately tested with an IQ under 25 because they can't test well.

My son is 24 and has an IQ of about 40. He cannot read or count past 20. But he does all his own laundry, keeps his apartment clean, makes a picture laundry list and does his own shopping, has his own business, gets himself up in the morning- gets ready to live his life without help. He votes. He pays taxes. He prepares most of his meals himself. He has learned how to drive, but not well enough yet for a license. He is an avid bike racer who competes against people without disabilities and doesn't come in last.

My son's best friend has an IQ almost twice his and none of the above describes him. But he can read and do math. He competes in Special Olympics. He cannot cook, clean, drive, grocery shop, or be left on his own more than an hour or so.

IQ is a number. A rather meaningless number.

Huh, just when I thought there was no such thing as a stupid question...

Fact is, an IQ of 25 would be someone in a coma, below 50 and the person can't function at all, nevermind be able to type a question on a computer.

Saying that unintelligent people are all in the pets section is completely random. I've looked through many different categories, there's an idiot in each one. But there are enough intelligent people who make Y!Answers worthwhile :)

Why are people answering the linked question taking it literally? As was said... if the person who ask the question in the pet section has an IQ lower than 25, then the person wouldn't be able to formulate and write coherent question in the first place.

So... of course they have higher than 25 IQ.

THAT question itself is not really about people with low IQ - just about the stupidity of people asking questions in the pet section.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HAVING SOME SORT OF INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY. The asker is merely using an exagerrated expression!

There is NO ISSUE here! Come on - people. let's show some IQ here so we don't become the "dump" people ourselves.

(waiting eagerly to be given thumbs down or even reported by all the ultra sensitive readers taking my answer personally )

I think it's insulting to the intellectually disabled and that the person who wrote it doesn't know what he's talking about. Your answer is right on the mark--a person with an IQ of 25 isn't able to speak, let alone type!

It really makes me angry when people can't -- or don't want to -- make the distinction between a stupid person and a disabled person. I'm sure you know as well as I do, that there is a huge difference.

that the person asking must have a low IQ of their own or else they wouldn't be trying to make others in the pet section feel bad about themselves, I did report him for that oh so rude insult.

It's kind of insulting to the people asking questions in those categories.
