The only term I know of outppatients is when someone has been to hospital for either long or short stay (whilst in hosp staying overnight hey are classed as inpatients) or gone to accident and emergency and seen the doc then need further treatment, they have to go back to the hospital but as they go in have treatment and leave same day then you are classed as an outpatient.

Hope that helps

An outpatient is a patient who only comes to a hospital or doctor for diagnosis and/or therapy and then leaves again.

Patients who are ready to leave and do not need further treatment because they are either cured or are being refered to another [ward or] hospital.

These patients are usually fine or are in extreme pain and the hospital does not have the fascillities to cater for them, for them to move, is the the best option. They can be moved out of the ward permanently to make room for others.

Usually mothers or illness-cured [men and] women will be the subjects to go through this process and hopefully go home...

I hope that helped...
