I recently went to see the new documentary/movie, Sicko. It really opened my eyes and has given me something to think about. I am a nurse and pay over $5000.00 anually for my family's health coverage. Plus, on top of that, we still pay a co-pay with each Dr visit. I am really curious to know how the people REALLY feel that have "free" healthcare and do they feel that they get quality healthcare?

Never happen in this country. A founding stance the US took was to be able to go out and make as much money as you can...get all of it! So there are folks who are rich and feel "I am rich, I have everything I need, I'm not going to share." These are the same folks who are in all areas of office and they don't want to worry about the middle class. Those of us who pay for everything!!! The lower 'class' gets free to very very low cost healthcare. The upper can afford it. Everyone in the middle pays for everything else.

It's the American Way.

i lived for 32 years in the uk where we have free healthcare.
i was a podiatrist in the national health service which is what our free health care is called.
my patients would have to wait 4 -6 months to see me even to have their toenaisl cut, so inevitably they would go and pay anyway.
doctors appointments were difficult to obtain, the docs were overun and always seemed to shrug you off.
thats not to say there were some great docs over there, but for the most part there were long waiting lists, older equipment, harrased doctors. you would wait 2 years for a hip replacement!
although i do think healthcare is way too expensive here in the usa, you could lose everything if you have a severe illness
maybe some subsidisation would be the way to go

The only people that get free health care are asylum seekers, people in prison and the long term unemployed. The rest of us in the uk pay for our healthcare in ever increasing taxes.
Wheher we get quality health care is a hit and miss afafir depending where you live , what is wrong with you and who treats you and how old you are.
Some of our hospitals are so dirty you are in danger of becoming iller than the condition you went in with. Elderly people are fitted up with do not rescucitate notices. First time mothers are left alone in labour in maternity units.
Perhaps if 'health tourists ' paid their way and the government got control of our borders more of us who live and worrk here would get a better service.

Any time something is "free", so many more people will make use of it, even when it is not needy, it will have to be rationed.

That is the case in every "free" health care country.
