No, what's the point of defragmenting daily. That's overkill

I do it every 6 months

in XP when you go to disc defrag it has a facility for anlysing the disc and it advises you as to whether you need to defrag or not, use this only as a rough guide, i have a 500GB internal hard drive and a 500 GB external hard drive, the internal one is well over two thirds full and it is used for about 8 hours a day, i defrag this one weekly even though XP says it doesn't need to be, the external drive i use occasionally and i defrag this once a month, both drives seem to be in excellent condition and my system appears to be running extremely well. because of the time it takes to defrag i think daily may be a little over the top, however i don't think it will do any harm. take care and good luck.

Online articles say it depends on how you use your pc. If you're heavy into graphics, moving and deleting files, downloading mp3 and video...yeah, you should be defragmenting often, if not daily.

You might want to look into a defragmenter that works in the background. I use one that defragments while my pc is idle. I don't have to set aside time for a full defrag since it's now become an ongoing process.

Depends upon how much installing and uninstalling you do, and how many files you download and then delete; but, your System Tools Disk Defragmenter will tell you if you need to defrag or not. Just ask it to Analyze.

In Xp, just go to Start - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter - then Analyze.

A lot of people are unhappy with the Vista defragmenter. You might want to use the following free program: http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/index.php

My system is automatically set to defragmenting once per week at night when the PC is not in use. Have never had a problem that the system slowed down.

It will obviously help, but it is not nessercery to do it that often.

Doing a defragment every week or something simular will be fine, It only sorts out all the files and corrects them, so i suppose the more you do it the better, but it depends how much time you have spare to do it, because depending how many files you have, will depend how long it takes.

I set mine to automatically defrag weekly, during the night when I'm not using it. I do constantly access my harddrive for files, and move and delete files. So it's pretty necessary for my computer.

However, if you don't do a lot of moving and deleting files, or adding and removing programs, it doesn't need to be done this often. Maybe once every 3-4 weeks should be good!

About once a month is fine, depending on how much data transfering and installing you do.

If you use large files being put around different folders all the time, then try once every 2weeks, no more, overkill otherwise, cos operating systems do an OK job, just need a bit of help every now and then.

well basicly defrag sorts out all the files o your hard drive and rearranges them to not also free up space on your hard drive but also makes your programs run more quicker and efficiently. i would recommend to do one maybe either once a month or when your programs run slow and i mean slow or just like in a emergency or something
