OK, you can get restrictor kits for gsxr 11's hogs, 1500/6 goldwings, but when you get up into that weight range of bike they'll struggle. a gt550 kwak fitted with a 33bhp kit will top out around 70/ 75mph, and will be noticeably sluggish. if you really feel the need for something bigger when you pass your test, the 600 bandits manage well and are very drivable with e restricor kit fitted.

Are you under 21? If not why not take the direct access test & get your full licence straight away?

If you have to take the 2 year restricted route then the only harley that you should consider would be an 883 sportster, they only make 49bhp as standard, so shouldn't be too awful with a restriction kit fitted.

If you are under 21 have you checked out the insurance cost of a 1000 cc machine? Unless you have a big trust fund you might want to scale down the size of you ambitions until you have some experience / no claims bonus.

From your description, you are looking at restricting a Night Rod Special from 115bhp, down to 33bhp.

33bhp would be very bad, and I'm afraid that when kids on scooters blow you away from the lights ('cos 33bhp is really, REALLY gonna struggle to pull a quarter-of-a-tonne of bike, plus you) it would make you look very silly, too...

Oh, and the V-Rods have a very tall first gear, too. It's easy to stall 'em, even with 115bhp - you need at least 3,000rpm on the dial to get rolling smoothly.
With only 33bhp, you will almost certainly cook the clutch within a few weeks, because you'll keep having to slip it in order to pull away.

The harley will struggle with only 33bhp on tap. Get something like a yamaha virago 535 to start with. They only make about 44bhp to start with so you won't notice the diff as much.

30 odd brake horsepower hauling something the weight of a 'hog' around should give you a bike with the performance of a slug on valium! Buy something smaller, lighter and designed to work with that kind of power output, and when you've served your time THEN get your Harley (if you must).
