You will be lying on your back on the table with your feet in the stirrups and a drape over the lower half of your body. The doctor will then pull the sheet back and put in an instrument called a speculum. This instrument looks like the bill of a duck. The first thing they will do is take cultures of any discharge they notice if they think an infection is going on, then for the pap smear they will take a special brush to take some of the cells from your cervix.

The cells are then put on a slide that then gets sent to the lab for further evaluation. The results will come back in about a week or two. There may be some light bleeding for a couple days after the pap smear but this is normal because of the irritation caused by the brush that is used.

If the bleeding continues past that then please let your doctor know.

After the pap smear is done the doctor will then do a pelvic exam. They will put one hand inside to feel the uterus, and ovaries to make sure there is nothing out of the ordinary about their shape and size and also check to make sure there are no masses on there. With that one hand still inside they will then take their second hand and place it on your abdomen and press down on those organs.

If you start to hurt during this exam it can be for one of 3 reasons:

1. tensing up (understandable to be nervous especially because it's the first time so please try to relax)

2. The doctor being too rough (you can ask them to stop)

3. Something wrong (such as an infection like a yeast infection)

If you have other questions for me please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.

During a smear test, some cells are taken from the cervix. These are sent to a laboratory for examination under a microscope. To be able to judge the cells properly, this is best done in the middle of your menstrual cycle, halfway between one period and the next.

The doctor or nurse will insert an instrument called a speculum into the vagina to allow them to see the cervix. A spatula is then wiped or scraped over the surface of the cervix to remove some cells, which are then transferred to a glass slide. The doctor or nurse may also do an internal examination to check for any problems.

The procedure can be uncomfortable but it shouldn't be painful. Try to relax. Talk to the doctor or nurse if you're worried.

It's very simple. The doctor or nurse will ask you to lie on your back and place your feet in foot stirrups, which are often padded for comfort. Next he or she will use an instrument called a speculum to push the walls of your vagina slightly apart and hold them open during the exam (many doctors now warm their speculums so they won't feel cold to the touch). Using a tiny brush or spatula, he or she will remove some cells from the surface of your cervix. This sample is smeared onto a glass slide, sprayed with a fixing chemical, and sent to a laboratory for examination.

you're in no way too youthful to have a smear try, all and sundry who's sexually lively ought to have a try each and every 2 years, despite if at your age you won't qualify for any loose programmes. As for being painful, your pals are having a humorous tale with you ~ the two that or they're being princesses approximately some thing very organic and hassle loose in fantastically much all circumstances. The try takes all of approximately 2 minutes, and maximum of it is training. For the try, the familiar practitioner merely expands the vaginal establishing with a speculum and then inserts a protracted, skinny 'spatula' (which looks similar to a plastic tube with little bristles at one end), and brushes it over the cervix. This collects cells that are despatched for diagnosis. there's a reasonable stinging sensation because of the fact the tool touches the cervix, for style of 0.5 a 2d, in spite of the shown fact that it would desire to infrequently be referred to as 'painful', at maximum quickly uncomfortable. the main uncomfortable element might desire to be the insertion of the speculum, if the familiar practitioner isn't considerate. yet maximum docs will heat the speculum and use lubricant, so the insertion is amazingly painless. circumstances of cervical cancer in women folk below 25 are particularly uncommon, yet once you want to start ideal in being sexually healthful at your age ~ choose for it! good success and maximum suitable desires :-)

You'll have to lie on your back, ankles together & knees apart, then they wil use an instrument to open your cervix this is the most uncomfortable part but not painful. Then the nurse or doctor will take a swab & gentle sweep the inside of the cervix, you proberly feel this but it's not painful. the whole procedure is uncomfortable but you should just take deep breaths & it's not at all painful. You shouldn't feel embarrassed, your doctor has seen loads of it & she has one herself! If you have a male doctor you have every right to ask for a female doctor to do it.

just lie on your back with your feet together and knees apart, they gently open 'it' up and take a swab from your cervix it only takes a few seconds and doesn't hurt. may be a tad embarrassing but don't worry about that.
