you might have a yeast infection which comes from tight clothing or underwear you should wear loose clothing and 100% cotton undies

I really doubt this discharge is anything to be concerned about. At the very worst it is a yeast infection and that has nothing to do with whether or not you're sexually active. It's very likley that the discharge you're experiencing is a perfectly normal secretion of the vagina.

I understand that you're stressed about going to see the gynocolagist but you're going to have to do it eventually. Everyone does. It can be uncomfortable and awkward but it's really not so bad as you think. The important thing is that you are taking care of yourself! If it would make you more comfortable you could even see a female doctor.

I'll give you the brief rundown on what goes on during a visit to the gyno:
First the nurse or nurse practioner will walk you to an exam room and instruct you to take off all your clothes (yes, I'm sorry but you have to). You will be given a sheet to cover up with and maybe a hospital gown as well. When the doctor comes in she will start with a breast exam. It should only last about 2 minutes. Then comes the pelvic exam. This is the most uncomfortable part. First she will press on your abdomen in order to feel your uterus and ovaries and check for any abnormalities. After this she will insert a speculum into your vagina in order to collect a sample of cervical mucus for your pap smear. This test will let her know if you are sexually healthy. It can be very uncomfortable but a good doctor will talk you through it. It's also much easier if you relax.

If you need medicine, the doctor will most likely give you a prescription before you leave or after your pap-smear results come back from the lab (which can take 2-3 days). Don't be afraid to ask questions when you're there. It is important that you understand what is going on. Try not to stress too much about this! I promise it's really not that big of a deal.

If you are going to get checked to see if there is an infection going on you won't need to take your shirt off. That happens if one is having an annual exam which includes examining the breasts. When the doctor comes in the patient already has a gown on for the preparation for that exam in addition to the drape for covering the area below in preparation for the pelvic exam.

But when doing a check for infection the only thing that will happen after the doctor inserts the instrument called a speculum (which looks like the bill of a duck) is to look inside your vagina and take a sample of the discharge to see what kind of infection is going on.

You let the doctor know that this is your first time to their office. I would recommend a female physician for anyone starting out with going to a gynecologist because it's less intimidating that way and easier for the patient to discuss any concerns she has about her health.

As for where the infection came from sometimes it can just show up. With a yeast infection (just giving an example) sometimes it can occur because of staying in wet bathing suits or because of certain kinds of medication such as antibiotics if one is on medication.

If you are going just for an infection check the doctor will take some of the discharge and look at it under the microscope if they have one and also send some of it out to another lab for further analysis. Then depending on what it shows if there's an infection then they will prescribe medication. If it's a bacterial infection the doctor will give you an antibiotic, for an infection such as yeast they will give you a medication that is specifically designed for killing fungus (yeast is a fungus).

Lots of women (including virgins) see the gynecologist for different reasons. I am a 35 year old virgin and I see one because I have health issues but others see them to get their check up every year to make sure they stay healthy.

When the woman goes in for a check up every year the doctor will at that time do a special test called a pap smear which is to screen (be on the look out for) cervical cancer. They use a special brush to take some of the cells from the cervix and then put it on a slide to have sent to a lab for analysis. They check to make sure nothing out of the ordinary shows up. The results come back in about a week or two. Some spotting (bleeding) can occur for about 2 days afterward but this is normal. If it continues past that then she needs to let her doctor know that it's still continuing.

As for how long after the exam will you get the medicine for an infection. It will depend on what the culture says, especially if sent out to another lab. The results can come back in a week.

If you have other questions please feel free to e-mail or IM me off the site.

But first thing before anything else, find out why your mom may want you to go now. Also, let her know that you are still having the discharge if you haven't already.

Some times yeast builds up and this could be the cause of your discharge. I think you will be fine (coming from someone who has experienced discharges before) your doctor will prescribe whatever medicine needed the same day and you can get it filled the same day. They usually don't cost too much as well. I am concerned however that your mom waited so long. As far as keeping your shirt on I don't think that will be a problem because the doctor only does breast exams on older patients unless they see reason to do one.

WOW...that's totally natural...it's a natural discharge, it just cleans you out regularly...like your period, but more than once a month. i Have one too..but mine is linked to ovarian cysts... which can be very painful when your period rolls around...BUT discharge could also mean a yeast infection or a baterial infection which is really bad...but since you're not sexually active both of these are kinda rare unless you've taken any strong antibiotics then it could possibly be a yeast infection...but as for going to the gyno i really think you should do it you dont really know anything about yourself until you go...it's important to know how everything is going in your downstairs. ...no there's no way to get it done w/ any of your clothes on b/c they have to check everything your breasts as well. i was so nervous the first time but you get used to it. Before you're sexually active it's really good to go b/c it keeps you updated on how everything is...make sure you go each and every year...and make sure you use condoms when you become sexually active b/c it could happen and i never thought id get anything but it slipped it...and im actually a descent person...me and my b/f have been dating for 2 years..so yeah...and your mom can't be in the room w/ you so she wont see you nakey

the doctor will prescribe medicine right away based on what she thinks it is. even though this is your first time, the more relaxed you are, the easier it will be. it usually takes less than 5 minutes to look inside the vagina and swab to check what the problem is. the doctor may not examine your breasts at all, but since this is your first time, she may think its necessary. ask you mom to please wait outside if you feel brave enough to go in alone. if not, maybe she can stand or sit off to the side away from the place that the doctor examines you from. if you can just be brave for about 5 minutes (and i know you can) just know it's all for you to get better.

Hi Don't feel bad you sound just like me, I too was nervous when I paid my first visit to the gyno. All I could tell you is try to relax and do what the qyno says. The gyno knows exactly how your feeling being that its your first time visiting. He or She will inform you that everything will be alright so just put your trust in your Doctor and before long it will all be over.

you're a touch youthful to be going to the gyno. The "G" shot they are conversing approximately is possibly Gardasil. it quite is a drug it particularly is meant to dodge cervical maximum cancers. even nevertheless, it hasn't been thoroughly examined and a few undesirable factor effects or maybe demise have resulted. once you go, seek advice from the well being care provider your self. tell the well being care provider which you particularly desire to grasp each thing related to the shot and not basically the fluffy stuff on commercials. i've got heard the shot is extra painful than others. it quite is given thrice and it quite is frequently given like a accepted shot interior the arm or leg. you are able to desire to speak to the well being care provider once you notice them so which you recognize what's occurring. Take charge of your well being. I under no circumstances have been given it by using fact they do no longer know plenty approximately it. they do no longer even know in case you like boosters years down the line or how long it lasts. It basically protects you back 4 of the one hundred lines of HPV (which has been correct to cervical maximum cancers). the quite G spot shot is a shot given to augment a woman's sexual journey round her G spot. That does no longer be for you nevertheless.

Relax. we have all been in your position.
No one will think anything of the problem.
No one will suspect you of 'doing' anything.
women get vaginal infections for many reasons and not all of them are a result of being sexually active.
