Imagine what would have happened to the carpetbaggers if they had gone into The South while the civil war was still raging.

Japan and Germany were helped after the war not while the bullets were flying. You may argue that they are there to help but the reality is this is a war zone and that war has to be won before the real add and help can work.

My grandson is over there, after serving in the Air Force he went back as a civilian contractor putting in electricity for the Iraq people that didn't know what electric was.
He says the people are very grateful and appreciative for what is being done for them, they appreciate the way people like my grandson go into harms way to help them out, they offer them meals, friendship and are not the ones waging the war, the terrorists are, we must remember that and keep that in mind.

It is not stupid as you say, to help those in need. We did this in Japan during WW2 and they've become our strongest ally, maybe you don't know history and better look around you. Germany was out worst enemy, look where they are now, who do you think rebuilt they're country, we've done this throughout the ages and have made friends world wide.

We have to stop looking at other countries as being unfriendly, yes, there are factions there that are not friendly, this is another whole story.

And, the Civil war was not "raging" in the South per se: it was fought along a line that was mostly in the Northern climates, yes it was fought in the South to a small extent but mainly in the North.

The reason why private contractors are in Iraq; is not for other people's benefits; but for individual benefits. The contractors are paid handsomely; and in return they get to experience the joy of helping another in need. And as for carpetbaggers; because of them; the South wouldn't have been repopulated after the Civil War.
