1st spte is to try a different discx if you haven't already.
Do ALL DVDs fail to play ? Can you browse the contents of a disc in My COmputer ?

If ALL fail to read, try a CD Lens cleaner disc, if this makes no difference, you need a new drive, as one of the laser systems has probably failed.

If it's a desktop, simply buy a new one and install yourself, remembering to make sure the "jumper" on rear by the power connector matches the sentting for the old one (MA, SL or CS to set drive as "master", "slave" or "Cable select"

Just set new onwe to what old one was.

If it's alaptop contact manufacturer for help / replacement
