I am 15...which is the legal working age were I live. But am trying to find a part time job for back to school, and am limiting my options to places like McDonald's just because I know they hire at my age...but I was thinking of applying at places that I have never seen people my age working...because I know I am more talented then the drug addicts working at McDonald's...so can a employer turn me down even though I'm the legal working age?

They can, becaue at 15 there are too many legal restriction on hours and such. They like employees to be at least 16.

They can turn you down because you don't have experience or qualifications to do the job. They have the right to hire the most qualified person for the job. They cannot discriminate because of age. You're problem at 15 is the same as anyone starting out in the workplace. You don't have a lot of life experience and you have no work experience. That's why they will only hire you in those cr*ppy jobs until you mature a bit. You sound like you have some ambition. Try it. All they can say is no. And if they say no, ask why and tell them you can handle the job and ask them to start you with a probation period-with a review after a month or so. You could also tell them you would work for less during that period but would expect an appropriate raise with a good review. That might impress them enough to give you a try and they have less to lose if you don't work out. It sounds like you will. Go get 'em.

at 15 in most states you are only allowed to work a few hours per week because of child labor laws and so therefore although it is not right, an employer can turn you down because they can say that they need an employee who can legally work more hours during the week and therefore you do not fit their current needs, they can get away with it but they just wont say its because of your age

Not necessarily for your age. However, they can say you're not right for the job due to lack of experience. Some jobs require employees to be over 18, especially one's which deal with any type of government contracts. Hope this helps.

Yes they can. Minors have job restrictions that adults don't have and that may or may not meet their staffing requirements.
