MPEG-4 or H.264.

The video needs to be in a format that an iPod has the capability of playing. So use Videora iPod Converter to convert the TV shows, movies or whatever else you need into an iPod compatible format. The iPod can only support 2 different formats. MPEG-4 and H.264, Videora iPod Converter allows you to choose which one you want. H.264 is a newer codec which is meant to have better quality than MPEG-4 at a given level of compression. Try them both and see which you prefer. In my experience, MPEG-4 is more stable but doesn't support all the color spaces the H.264 does. For home movies, H.264 might be your only option.

Videora iPod Converter is completely free and does its job well. I use it on a regular basis, and it has never failed me.

Download Videora iPod Converter from this source:

Once the video has finished converting, just place the file into iTunes as you regularly would, and voila, you have videos perfect for your iPod! You can play any video on your iPod, no matter where you got it from, as long as they are in a format that is compatible with an iPod.

Please do note that video can only be played on an iPod Video no matter what format it is in! Movies usually take 1-2 hours to convert, so all you have to do is give it time. I think this is a small price to pay for a completely free movie to play on your iPod.

You have to download an iPod converter and convert your videos to the ipod format. Apple likes to be difficult like that.
