Any ballroom studio usually has beginner swing lessons. Any place that hosts swing dances in your area would have beginner lessons too. Once you get the basics and general understanding you can fine-tune your choice of classes for the future learning. Look for ballroom studio on http://www.ballroomdancers.com or http://www.accessdance.com
Since you've mentioned 40's, here is a link to a swing dance from the 40's. I think it's cool.

There is East Coast swing and West coast swing. If you go to toutube and put each into the search box and watch a few selections, which will help you know more about it all. Some of them have links to mail order DVDs, which is really an easy way of learning more. Once you have found out more about this type of dancing you kind decided what classes you really want. There are also a number of places that run open dance practice sessions for those who have a bit of experience and know the steps. As you have a partner already interested then it is quite easy to get a lot more info and learn a fair bit without too much expense, and in your own time. Also google both styles of the swing, that way you will know so much more and the more you know, the more you will enjoy the dance. I have seen many varieties and once the basics have been learnt then you can develop your own styles too. Enjoy it!

I've been learning with my sisters at an after school thing, were very athletic and love dancing, we like old music too, the modern things are not really any good, no style or talent. I'm positive that they will be some classes for swing dancing, quite a few people are into its now, have you tried google, I would say where you might be able to go but I don't know whereabout you live, its bigger in america but if you live in england, there's quite a lot of places too.

I know how to swing dance, and yes, there are classes. I don't find swing dancing (well, east coast swing) to be all that hard to learn. I recomend that you either take an all-styles class or one that focuses on east coast swing first. I've always found that the best/easiest to learn first. Most community colleges offer swing classes, and I'm sure there are dance studios wherever you live that will as well (but the CCollege classes are usually cheeper and just as good)

They had several places in the Midlands running classes in Jive and Rock 'n' Roll, a few years back.
Maybe just look up Yellow Pages for your area and contact the dance schools.
Have you seen the film "The Benny Goodman Story"? It was great - saw it back in the 50's ; see that Humph is still out there performing. I have several swing and jazz records dating from the 50's - my daughter thinks I'm a weirdo, too and has been nagging me to "de-clutter" and bin them.
