O.k .well here's an answer that's sure to be different from the rest: I tell the TRUTH.....yep...the truth! My father (and his) are both police officers, and they ingrained into me the idea that officers respect the truth far more than they do a lie (and who wouldn't?)...that police officers hear lies every single day...a multitude of them...so much so that they pretty much KNOW when you're lying to them, no matter how convincing you think you sound...lol! The rare person is the one who is forthcoming with the truth...and this is something they really do respect. They also respect you being courteous, and actually being sorry if you did something wrong. The combination of truth, courteousness, and remorse is, when sincere, the best way to handle this kind of situation. (And yes, I was once pulled over for speeding- (doing 51 in a 40 mph zone) and the officer asked me "why were you speeding?" And I told him the truth: I didn't realize that I was...I wasn't paying attention to my speed." I also told him that I was sorry. He thanked me for my honesty, and let me go with a warning.

In some states and counties, there is something called a "continuance for dismissal." That means if you bring your ticket in to a government center, you can get your ticket stricken from your driving record if you promise not to get another ticket for a full year (or a certain amount of time)-- it's different in different counties and states. If you do get a ticket within that time frame though, you're screwed and both go on your record.
Some states let you take a simple 1 day class to make you a better driver. Then, it doesn't appear on your record either.
Check with your local government center or talk with a local attorney about it-- they'd know. And I'm sure that the fee for 5 minutes of consultation is worth saving insurance problems.

More like what haven't I done?
The best was when I got pulled over 2 days before Christmas for going 34 in a 30. I had the 2 kids that I'm a nanny for in the backseat and I cried and told the officer that "my children" wouldn't have Christmas presents if I had to pay the speeding ticket. He had pity on me and let me go. Oh...not only were the babies not mine, I'm Jewish too.

I actually did get out of 2 tickets. The first one was because Maybelline Great Lash made my eyes look sexy, I just fluttered a bit! :-)
The second one was because the officer wrote that the speed limit was 25 when it was actually 35 mph. I was going 42. When I called city hall, they told me that the ticket was going to be VOIDED because it was not my fault the officer didn't know the speed limit on the streets he was patrolling. (lucky me)
BTW - I love your kitten avatar!

I would flirt a little with the officer, if it is a man.
I would tell a lie like, emergency at home...kid is sick....have to go to bathroom....something to appeal to a woman's empathy

I'd talk miles a minute and use big words in hope to annoy/confuse him enough to just let me off. I wonder if it'd actually work...
