Former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev criticized the United States, and current President George W. Bush in particular, on Friday for sowing disorder across the world by seeking to build an empire.

Gorbachev, who presided over the break-up of the Soviet Union, said Washington had sought to build an empire after the Cold War ended but had failed to understand the changing world.

----------

I'd say, after the dismal failure of how American handled 911 along with nation building, that Gorbachev is right on the money.

(Failure is defined as 'failing to preform.' In the wake of two failed wars and the confusing nature of the war on terror, it appears that failure is too kind a word. Clusterphuk is more like it.)

Peace

Jim

I don't know about an empire, but it does seem that this administration is trying to undo any positive things that the Carter, Reagan, Bush 41 and Clinton administrations have done, especially as it pertains to the middle east. Arab-Israeli peace achievements under Carter and Clinton are DOA, as is Clinton's economy. The big @ss military Reagan built is about spent. And remember how Bush 41 after the Gulf War said "the ghost of Vietnam has finally been laid to rest?" Looks like Junior woke it up again.

"Imperialism" is definitely on it's way up... The way this works today for the USA, is that they throw money after and buys any country and anyone they want... You don't belive me? Investigate what happend with ex soviet countries... The C.I.A have never been as power full as they are today... Maybe that's why we never hear about them in the media? hm hm... The world get sliced and diced up and everybody wants a piece... And nobody wants to do the dishes... Empire? Yes, USA is trying to rebuild the old "Roman Empire", I am sure of it. It's no joke, there is forces and organizations out there that is willing to fund this... In example there is a little organization that is very powerfull in the US (I think pres. Bush is a member?) called the "Masons"... I know it's their wet dream to re create the Roman Empire...

Yes, and no.

We want an ally who won't fall under the sway of terrorist forces or Islamic fundamentalists.

Russia did this for decades, growing from one country into the massive political entity called the "U.S.S.R.", all in the name of "security". They had good reason. They had been repeatedly attacked, so they took over, sometimes forcibly, every country surrounding them that they could as a buffer. Kettle calling the pot black? He knows it. Doesn't matter. He's expected to say that by his government, and it's in the interests of Russia to prevent us. I don't begrudge them that. We do the same thing ourselves.

I just happen to side with us.
You seem to have sided the other way.

mckenziecalhoun’s Rules of Political Acumen
Rule number 67: The most effective way to damage your opponent in the minds of those who think slowly is to accuse them of what you are doing or have done yourself. This stops them from thinking about what you have done and focuses them on your opponent, ignoring the simple fact that the accusation may hide a reality you both agree is necessary, but has a “bad image” to others, such as national security (“not transparent”, “big brother”), patriotism (“fascist”), freedom (“anarchy”), defense (“war-mongering”), and creating allies (“empire building”), among many others. Necessary but with unpopular labels that can be used to exaggerate and thus damage the credibility of those you use them against, even if you practice the same thing.

If it's true then the US don't know how to go about it. The trick is to occupy the land conquered, administer them, make loads of money from the occupied domain and ship the wealth home.

But here we have an America paying out billions of taxpayers money every year to buy loyalty and not gaining it; enriching politicians, corporations at home and abroad; get caught in battles they really don't want to fight; and running a deficit for its citizens to bear.

What the hell kind of empire building is this?

The USA has been empire-building since at least 1899, when the US-Phillipines war started. Russia is also an empire-builder: Putin is currently trying to win back the former soviet territories.

At least the Brits didn't pretend not to be empire-building.

No, if by America, you mean the United States--it is not trying to build an empire. The globalists are trying to build a world empire based on a kind of corporate communism with three economic trade zones similar to the EU. One of these zones will contain the remnants of the countries in North, Central, and South America. You can find all this information if you do a search online.

The Bush family and many of the candidates for the U.S. presidency are globalists. If the people of this world are distracted by wars over oil or religion, it will be easy to make them capitulate to globalism.

Globalists and globalism is your true enemy. Are you ready to join the backlash against globalism? Stand-up with us and fight it.

America has had plenty of chances to have it's empire but we keep giving what we gain away. No I believe if anyone is trying to build an empire based on a dictatorship it would have to be GWB. Or has anyone looked into the things Germany has been up to lately? Their military funding has gone up quite drastically in the last decade.

Clusterphuk is EXACTLY the term to describe the US today. This country is going down the toilet and we are letting the "squeaky wheels" change our lives and our childrens lives. Too bad every one is so PC today. :(
