Say you were into 'astral projection' and you went off for a bit of a wander (as you do), and someone discovered your body and killed it, what would happen to your 'astral' self. There's supposed to be a 'link' like a thread, to the body, so what if it was severed?

This is an excellent question and I will offer it my all in answering it.

Astral projection is something that has gone on in many people from many places across the entire world. While many religions recognize it in some form others do not. Astral projection is something that every living person is capable of doing and most will experience it several times during their life. Because astral projection is something many people have done and continue to do humans have naturally evolved several natural guards that would stop many events from taking place.

First would be what many call the snap back. This is what happens when our body in the physical world becomes disturbed. When we are travelling the astral world our bodies are connected to our souls by the ghost cord (this has many names, including: Silver cord, Spirit string, golden line...). This ghost coord is a part of our energy and communicates our physical form to our spiritual self. If our bodies are moved while we travel this coord will pull our soul back into our body at incredible speed so we can handle the event our body is experiencing. If someone was harming our physical self we could snap back and retaliate.

Another common worry is about the lesser members of the astral world severing our ghost cord. While this would essentially murder us there is no reason to worry about becoming forever adrift in the astral planes. This is because our guardians (however you wish to call them be it angels, ancestors, guardians, avatars...) know precisely were our spiritual selves happen to be. They will gladly arrange our transport to the afterlife we have chosen for ourselves regardless of where are body is.

While this is not part of the question I would like to add this to anyone considering astral travel. I do not recommend astral travel outside of supervision from a professional. Knowing how to protect yourself in the astral is of great importance. Many students who have attempted this, myself included, usually come out of it with astral parasites. While these are not particularly harmful, in many cases they still drain the life energy we rely on for most of our magick. With a professional at hand removing them is simple and harmless to both yourself and the parasite. These parasites are not evil in nature, simply spirits that desire to feel living energy and don't understand you as another being, merely a source of nurishment.

I have studied magick in many different forms. I am by no means an expert in magick. I would simply tell you I have a good idea of whats going on. From the age of 14 I have studied and lived the world of magick. I am an Occultist and follow my own particular belief based on what I already know. Astral travel is not my strongest study so I recommend consulting a professional for anything regarding methods of astral travel.

Welsh Dragon. What a good question. The link to the body is the Silver Cord.It attaches the Astral or Spirit body to the physical, by way of the Solar Plexus. If the physical dies, then so does the Astral. Bit of a nuisance really, don't you think? The Spirit would be left to wander until rescued.Perhaps our Guide would help us out. I will ask mine to sort out an answer. Keep up the good thinking.

It would be exactly like dying when your astral body is experiencing a sense of "being in/part of" the physical body -so basically just like if you we murdered at any time.

So, my 'advice' is - Your own fear or hesitation is far more painful and dangerous to "you" than anything that could ever happen "to you".

you live, you die, you wander, you come back - no big deal !!

No use spending "living" years on "dying" ideas.

The astral corde would be cut as if you were just killed. You go imidiately to astral plane as astral projection but you can't come back and you see more things as you are dead and belong to the astral.

From what I've heard, if you astral project and someone kills you while doing it, you're body is doomed to remain in astral projection for eternity.

Either your soul would stay on the astral plane or you soul would sense immediate harm to the body and withdraw itself back into physical form to seek physical protection.

You would die, my dear. The link is the 'soul' or life force. If the body dies, the life force has no where to return to.

Before you go to bed at night imagine your self wrapped fully in a white light (gods light) it will protect you and you will not be harmed in the first place guaranteed. To long of a story but I do have one it proved it to me. God bless.
