I mean simple like pasta and marinara sauce, gnocchi, veal marsala. Stuff like the Italians make generation after generation. Not the trendy crap like pesto sauce, etc.

Cafe Juanita in Juanita (near Kirkland). Chef Holly Smith is a James Beard Award winner and has been recognized by nearly every foodie magazine in the US. She serves authentic Northern Italian cuisine. Last summer she was in the Piedmont region of Italy where the slow food movement was started, so she knows of what she creates. Her pastas and ingredients are so fresh they make me hum with contentment! This is my favorite restaurant in Seattle, Italian or otherwise.

If Northern Italy is not your favorite region then try La Medusa in Columbia City (within the Seattle city limits) for Sicilian inspired dishes. Their thin crust pizzas are great. My favorite dish is their spaghetti marinara, normally I like something more complex, but when ingredients are fresh simplicity is more than enough to satisfy.

I absolutely agree with Sione that Il Firenze in Crossroads (Bellevue) is wonderful Italian food. Additionally, I like Ciao Bella which is now located behind the University Village, and also Mama Melina's on 50th and Brooklyn. The same ownership of Mama Melina's owns Barolo (Northern Italian cuisine) which is in downtown Seattle at the bottom of the Metropolitan Apt Towers. Their food is wonderful and the management is great! I have never been unhappy (nor have my guests) at any of these establishments.

Go to Salumi near pioneer square. THAT'S some authentic Italian food.

Love your pasta and gnocchi "starters". Talk about trendy. Amecians don't even realize those aren't even considered entrees in Italian cuisine.

I'm not really sure, because I've never really been there before. However, I do like pesto sauce, so you need to lay off of that! If you want authentic italian stuff, then you could always come suffer here in New Jersey, because they are everywhere. What guido goes 'yo you, im from Seattle! Fuggedaboutit!'

Best source to find any price range and different types of cuisine (restaurants), ger a reveiw of the restaurant and many times even see what the menu & decor look like is www.opentable.com. It totally works we always use this site when we travel & are always amazed how seamlessly it works... good luck and bon apetit!

Buca Di Beppo's. They server family style. A small order of spaghetti will serve roughly 4-6 people, depending on appetite. They have the BEST garlic bread. There are slices of roasted garlic on it. There is also one in Lynnwood.

No, Seattle is not in Italy. It is in Washington and part of the United States. There can not be any authentic Italian restaurants anywhere but in Italy.
