Probably the thing she'll appreciate the most is for you to be supportive....... just being there for her will mean so much. You've certainly got the right idea about cheering her up. But how you will do that is something you will have to give some thought to but it shouldn't be too hard. That is such a personal thing to do. You know her personality, I don't. Whatever you can do to ease the burden on her will be appreciated, I'm sure. Maybe you could think of a way to get her mind off her Mom's illness, from time to time. Just for an hour or too. God bless.

cuddle and hug her, sooth her down "its going to be alright, we will get through this together..." blah blah blah, you know. Maybe take her to a FUNNY movie to cheer her up or make her laugh cuz it sounds like shes not in the mood to be happy at the moment.

that is sweet you care for your girlfriend....
...take her out to her favortie places....to eat...or a movie...or wherever she most likes to be...away from anything to do with the hospital and her mother...
...sometimes gifts or flowers might be associated with the time or problem she is having...thinking about her mom....so do things with her to take her mind somewhere else....show her other things to focus on that are positive and what she really likes....

Just be there for her, listen to her, ask if there is anything you can do for her. If she can be cheered by a movie, long walk, backrub or anything else, great, but if she's not up to anything be patient with her.

Personally, i would take her some present, or some flowers - something like that to her, give her a hug - and let her know your there for her.
