I think he hated the part of harry that reminded him of his father, and liked the part (mainly the eyes) that reminded him of his mother.

I thought Snape's death was pretty pointless.

EDIT: I re-read that part, and I think Snape disliked Harry, because when asked by Dumbledore if 'he had come to care for the boy' Snape yelled 'him?' Snape cared only for Lilly. And he knew that Lilly would have wanted him to protect her son.

I think there were mixed feelings. On the one hand, Harry's appearance and some of his actions reminded Snape of James. There were certainly times when Snape reacted to those and had trouble seeing a complete picture of Harry. On the other hand, part of Snape did see Harry as a last remnant of Lilly. In short, Snape never wanted to hurt Harry, but, while he cared for Harry, he did not necessarily like Harry all that much.

Just the mum. Snape probably liked the rare glimpse of Lilly in Harry's eyes ("look at me" in the end), but that only made him hate Harry for being like his father most of the time.

Whole thing makes much more sense if you think that Snape is helping Harry only b/c he wants Voldemort killed for good.

All the memories from Prince's Tale chapter were provided by Snape himself, and he might have faked it, being as good as he was at mind manipulation.

A bit of a Spoiler here, so readers, do NOT read if you haven't read the whole book yet, ok?

Snape loved Lily Evans very much that he is willing to betray the Dark Lord for her sake...But we all know that Voldemort killed her even though Snape begged him for Lily's life, which results to Snape's allegiance to Dumbledore...To make it up for his mistakes, he decided that he would look after the only remnant of Lily that's still living...And that would be her son, Harry...After reading the last book, one can conclude that Snape doesn't actually dislike Harry, he was actually disciplining him rather than torturing him... (READ "Prince's Tale Chapter in Book 7)...What pisses Snape the most is the fact that Harry's resemblance to his Father and his attitude dominates mostly. Still, the fact that Harry has his mother's eyes gave another significance...He treated Harry as a part of him, remember on the Prince's Tale Chapter in Book 7, he was arguing with Dumbledore about Harry's fate on dying? It mostly proves that Snape really looks after Harry and like him in a way that one would not expect to be the most noble and greatest of all...

^_^

Just his mother. Snape looked at Harry and all he could see was James. Had Harry looked more like his mother, Snape probably would have been nicer to him.

Snape loved Harry from the moment his mother died. He just don't want Harry to know. Excerpt from book 7 :(conversation of Dumbledore and Snape page 687)
Dumbledore: "Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?"
Snape: "after all this time?" "Always".

So I guess that proves that Snape liked Harry. And before he died he told Harry to look at him maybe to get a last look at his eyes because it is like her mothers.

That's one of those questions that J.K. Rowling left unanswered, and it really bothered me. She never explained that, but what we got is that no he didn't like Harry he just loved Lily. What I got was that he only kept Harry safe for Lily because he felt he owed her that, but I never got that he actually liked Harry. That's also why I wasn't really sad about Snape dying.

i think it was just for lily and he knew that lily's blood was in harry so that was part but ithink that if snape would have stopped loving lily that there would be a pretty good chance that he would have killed harry earlier in the books but than there wouldnt be many books.
