This would REALLY help if you had some additional details, because I do not understand in the slightest how patriotism might beget racism.

Oh, right.. You mean for a person to be proud of their own heritage? Well, I suppose that it can, but I don't think it will always have that outcome... I think people should be proud of their heritage, but people should also respect other people's heritage.
