Do you need to be in the same state? Or can two doctors from different states compare info? If so how do I go about finding a doctor for compatibility tests for donating a kidney to a family member in another state?

I have never donated a body part, but have seen them harvested, and have talked to the retrival team.
You dont have to be in the same city or state.
Your doctor can order blood tests, etc to see if your kidney is compatable.
Your family member doctor can also do the same thing on that family member.
After deciding the kidney's are compatable, one of two things will happen. Either the doctor who is going to do the transplant on your family member will fly and do your surgery, take the kidney, and fly back to your relative.
Another possiblity is your doctor removing your kidney and then having it taken to the site where your relative is.
More than likely though they will want you both in the same hospital in adjoining OR's.
The other thing which you have to consider is the cost for the surgery. Who is going to pay for the surgery to be done on you, and who is going to pay for the surgery of the family member.
Several years ago, my brother was going to have a liver transplant and he had to show the hospital he had $200,000.
Good luck to both of you.
