Theoretically, it should be more about giving than taking. Otherwise the concept of love is defied.
If you call it a give and take thing, it just makes it sound cold and business-like. Almost like a cordial arrangement where no deep emotions are involved.
If it's love on both sides, it becomes a give and receive process, not give and take. For some reason, take just has a negative connotation and makes it sound like you're expecting something in return - which is not the case with unconditional love.

I think it would take an extraordinary freak human being to merely give without any take, not only in love but also in faith!! I have yet to come across any such rare personality!!! Therefore, for all practical purposes, so far as I believe, our love can at best be give and take only. I further believe that the purest form of faith is love for God and that means a lot in terms of 'give and take' apropos God as well.

I think love is more of a matter of acceptance & appreciation. Relationships, however, are often based on giving and taking. If one is in love with another, the thought of giving and taking probably doesn't cross their mind. They only seek to spend their moments together.

No not at all. There are many aspects of love, A few is having that chemistry, mutual respect and many other things. But I think the bottom line is when you give to them. they will always give back even more in return. And when you hold them, you never want to let them go.

Love isn't a trade. Love is giving, gladly. If you're lucky, you'll get it back. But that's not the point of love. If it becomes an accounting exercise, it's gone. Forget it and go, peacefully. That way at least you'll learn more about it - so long as you observe, listen, think, and reflect.

for a mature love, yes it is so.
Of course not a business-like giving and taking.
It's may be like a flower which you nurture and it blooms. It gives you flowers and you feed it more and the cycle goes on and on.

No matter if you are straight, homo, purple, etc. Love will always be a give and take thing as will any other relationship in your life.
