Write your letter very carefully and don't whine. Explain what happened and why. Excuses are not acceptable or worth your bosses time. Be sure your letter is written using good grammar spelling etc. Then be the person you are trying to say you are and go and tell him you would like the letter in your file and would like to discuss your termination. Do not take no for an answer. Make an appointement first if necessary so that he has the time to sit down and talk to you. Look him directly in the eye and plead your case. Rehearse your facts so that you can speak clearly and consisely. Take a point list of facts if you must but do not read them. Do not blame others for your failure. Whatever happens, do tell him you do not think you were treated fairly and that your termination was wrong and why. Do tell him that you wanted to speak to him directly so that he could understand the facts surrounding your termination. And even if he says you didn't perform up to whatever standards were expected of you. Thank him for his time and for listening to you. He will respect you for coming into his office and standing there and telling your side of the story. The other part of it is that you now have a letter in the file that says you objected to your termination. In the future, when you have to refer to it, you can say that your termination was unfair because of personnel problems or office politics and that you objected to it. Doesn't sound like much but it is something and if you were in fact treated unfairly, it gives your boss something to think about. Word it all very carefully. You are now learning to stand up for yourself. Be proud of who you are and how you conduct yourself. Stand up straight, shoulders back, head held high. Never go easy and always fight for the right. It's a good way to go through life.

Well, Governer Schwarzenegger is probably very sorry!

Get it? You were Terminated by the Terminator.

You should be happy that your job wasn't taken by an advanced, self-aware machine from the future.

Just kidding...but not really!

(I wouldn't include too much about The Terminator in your resume)

If you were accused of something you didn't do and want to let your boss know the truth, a telephone call would be best. If you were wrongfully terminated, contact the labor board or a lawyer. If not, find a new job and forget about it.
