If it is a forgone conclusion than why even bother asking the question?

Barry is, at best, #3 or #4. Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Lou Gehrig all have better stats.

Barry _was_ a good fielder but those days are long gone. The guy is so slow now that he is defensive problem in left-field. Barry doesn't blow anybody out of the water, he just blows.

No, he isn't the greatest. Are you a Bonds fan? I definitely think so. Greatness, in my mind, doesn't just mean numbers and MVP's. Yes, they're tremendously good, but has Bonds ever, EVER been a team leader? Has he ever won a World Series? Ok, maybe that's not fair, because guys like Dan Marino have never won the big one before. But has he gotten his team into the playoffs with any kind of regularity? No, he hasn't. Stan Musial, Cy Young, and Ted Williams are names that come to mind when I think of the greatest of all time. Bonds is up there, but he isn't the best.

If he's not he's near the top. In his youth he was great out in the field and could steal bases. This version we see now is just a shell of that great ball player. But you can't leave Babe out of the question because not only was he a slugger but he pitched as well. We'll never see anyone like that again. But as soon as Barry passes the 755 mark he will be the greatest in my book. Forget the steroids and all that crap. Steroids can only do so much, because look at Mark McGwire. Did he do half the things Barry did? Nope not even close. So ya Barry will go down as the best ever (so far anyways).

Give Babe Ruth the same "juice" Bonds had and he'll blow Barry away... or Hank... or A-Rod... or Ted Williams... or Mantle... or Lou... you get the point. The steroid era has totally ruined any comparison.

Bonds is a cheater. If a pitcher gets caught with tar or sand paper on the mound, he gets the boot. But because Barry has prejudice support, Jesse Jackson, he gets off free.

The man admitted to taking roids, whether he new about it or not (which only ignorant people actually believe), he took them.

Tell you what... all pitching coaches should take their starting pitchers hats, rub a little sumn-sumn under the bill and give back to them.

The pitcher can't get in trouble based on the precedent set by Barry.

Yes, he could possibly be one of the greatest players ever to live but with a qualifier and an asterisk. We are living in the chemical age and players pre this era should not have to be held up to today's standards. A lot players seem to use steroids in this day and age and such players should only be compare to one another. The old time players are the true heroes of the game because their statistics are based upon real skill and true grit.

Statistically its Aaron...he currently leads Ruth in two vry important categories, home runs (which isn't going to last more than another week), and RBI's which will last forever because Bonds is more than 200 behing Hank. Last time I checked you have to score more runs than the other team to win the game, so Hank driving in more makes him the better player. I'd put Willie Mays ahead of both of them thought because he was in my opinion the best defensive outfielder in history and also one of the greatest hitters that ever lived. He'd be right up there in the home run totals if he hadn't played in the Polo Grounds for the first 6 years...

A big resounding NO. He is an immortal, but stats aside, he is not the greatest. Ruth, Gerhig, Dimaggio, Williams (Ted), Mays, Cobb. To name a few.

Plus, with I think one exception from the list above, these guys won championships, multiple ones at that.

I love Bonds. He might not be a media darling, but he is an amazing ballplayer. He is however not the greatest ever. Not even the greatest of his generation, that would be Alex Rodriguez
