The biggest hailstorms in the United States have been responsible for major damage and death. In total, there have been billions of dollars in hail damage in recent years. Some hail storms have produced hail up to the size of softballs and, in very rare events, even larger. Hail storms on occasion will kill people and have at times killed thousands of animals with one storm. Hail can be so concentrated that it is meters deep and has to be removed with a snow plow. This kind of hail, in combination with colder temperatures and heavy rain, can make flooding situations. There is really no way to determine the biggest hail storm in the U.S.

I don't know the date, but they showed one on Full Force Nature Friday that caused a major headache. By the time it was done, the water equivalent was at least waist deep. This was in I believe Denver, Colorado.
