~YES! Not only are they fun, fast paced, and exhilerating, they are filled with morals and good messages. But I am going to be honest with you: they begin light and cheerful and mystical, and as you move through Harrys years they grow quite dark.

The earlier books tend to explore themes of self fullfillment and learning about ones self, while the later books begin to explore themes of death, and what makes people do evil things. (fear). They ALL explore love, relationships, and responsiblity.

I own every one and HIGHLY recomend them to anyone!

Ahh, of course you should. If you are someone who has only watched the movies - argh! Movies for all books) give nothing but the main plot, the books develop characters and back story properly and really suck you in. JKRowling is a very good author, she spent 7 years planning before she wrote the first book. There are a million sub-plots that link together throughout the series with kazillions of twists and turns along the way. And Harry's universe is just pure genius. It's also hardly a children's book, even if thats what it started as, once you get to book 7 you will have noticed the dramatic shift in tone and themes for sure. It sucks that you are getting into it so late, with all the books done, because the excitement on waitng for a new book to come out, and using the clues in previous books to develop theories of whats going to happen was just brilliant fun. As someone else mentioned though, the first half (until Harry gets to Hogwarts at least) of the first book can be dull and has turned away countless readers from ever reading the series, just stick it out and you will realise hwo great the series is! Sure it might seem like a children's book at first, but hey, Harry is 10 at the start of book one, but he's almost 18 by the end of book 7. :) Happy reading :P

Of course. And I shall explain why.
They are amazing. Rowling has created a universe which so many people love. Where there's evil, but still hope. Her characters are amazing, and it teaches us that it doesn't matter if you're poor, or different, (or a werewolf...) . Above everything else, when you read them there is this amazing feeling. (especially if you haven't seen the movie). You can really relate to characters, love characters, hate characters, cry on the books, feel extremely happy for a character, or be extremely happy because of an event. I read the first HP book when I was 8, and Harry Potter was always there when I needed him, I read the books when I was depressed, I fall in love with characters (I'm not kidding). I used to play games with my friends pretending I was a character...

Okay this is getting too long. I'm sorry. I'm to obsessed. And as Rowling says, I won't rest until I find out the middle names of Harry's great-great-great grandparents!!
