I live in Texas and its cool and balmy. We have summer then fall followed by winter and spring. Texas is very big. It takes me 6 hours to drive to the state line east or west. 3 hours to drive north to Oklahoma and 8 hours to the Gulf Coast.
Texas has a wide range of climates and terrain. THe hill counrty around Austin is covered with Oaks and junipers, There are spring fed streams and beautiful scenery. Further south on the Frio River the water is so clear you can see bottom in 15 or more feet of water and see the fish swim by. Where I live the hills roll and are covered in mesquite and grasses with deer and cattle in abundance. The rivers here are muddy and slow and the lakes are deep and blue and full of fish. In east Texas there are pine forests and big deep lakes. In the west are wide open expanses of farms and grasses and southwest is Chiuahuan desert with yucca and other desert plants on a couple of hundered of miles of raw open and sparsely populated land . South along the coast are mile after mile of flat sandy covered beaches and lagoons of water fowl and alligators.
Austin is a very laid back city with much traffic but nice to visit with 6th street etc. San Antonio has Sea World, the Alamo, and the River Walk to name some. Betweeen is New Braunfels with Spring fed waters and Schlitterbaun and the town's German heritage.
Dallas/ Fort worth is a hugh metropolitain area with everything under the sun and a jillion people, most friendly.
Houston is big, big and dirty and crowded and probably better than I give it credit for. 5 million strong.
El Paso is heavily Hispanic in nature sits right next to its nieghbor Ciudad de Juarez with mountains to the northeast and big beastiful desert to the the southeast.
Whatever you want it to be Texs can be. There are hunderds of unique small town experiences waiting to be discovered. World Class resorts are everywhere. I feel safe almost anywhere in the state. Especially in small town Texas where I find I can strike up a conversation and maybe friendship at the drop of a hat.
I have lived here for over 40 years and I have no hope of ever really seeing it all.

I live in Texas and it is hot and miserable. There are no real seasons like there are in other states because the weather changes one minute to the next and the weathermen can't even predict the weather because they are stupid or the weather is stupid.
