Yes, if required for the cause. I think of every Airman, Soldier, Sailor, Marine, or Reservist that dies for our country as somewhat of a martyr. They have volunteered to be available to defend freedom, democracy, and uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America--the oldest such document still in effect, phenomenal for the youth of the country.
I have been in the military for over 24 years, and have never doubted that I would die for my cause: the USA. If captured, and under duress or torture, I would only hope that I could uphold the Code of Conduct, so as not to discredit myself, my service, or my country.

I would be more apt to when I was young when I saw the world in black & white. The older I have gotten to more shades of gray I see.
Knowing me I would be a martry if the situation demanded it of me. The situation would have to be profoundly important to me. Some martym in the past was over things that arn't all that important today. I don't have anyone wanting to kill me because I am a Christian or because of the color of my skin.
I live in a world where I don't have the inspiration to be a martyr at the moment.
If some thugs held my children and grandchildren captive and there was little chance of them living.....I would be there facing death if I had to in order to save them.
But I will not be a martyr so that my kid gets a gameboy.
We don't live in a world now that demands there be marytrs.
But who knows about the future?

I just though about this the other day, I could have been a martyr for the Jews, and I'm not Jewish, I was thinking about Hitler because I'm reading a book on Einstein and it made me think that if I were alive then I would have killed him to save all those people that he either killed or made suffer in those camps, and for all the family's who lost loved ones because he didn't think that Jews were worth anything. I would have done it in a minute, even knowing that I would have to pay with my own life.

I'm glad you asked that question. Good timing.
I've had martyr-like behaviour that's for sure.
Ultimately, there's really no point in being a martyr.
The goal is to be happy. Suffering or dying for some principle is starting to sound more and more silly to me as time goes by.
I didn't always believe that, but I do now.
There is absolutely no reason to suffer and die unnecessarily.

I believe that to be a true martyr one has to be in a certain state of mind. I dont think I have acheived that mental aspect. If I do, the physical is easy, it follows automatically like night follows day.

For what cause? Never, for any imaginary being, but yes, for what I believed to be valuable. Some things are more important than living, but nothing is worth dying for.

Yes and I would do it standing tall.
BTW: Your an easy book to read. Your mask of confidence and conceit does not conceal the abject fear within. what is it you really want to know? If you had just one question.........?

Absolutely, if it was for something worth dying for, something I truly believed in and had a passion for, yeah.
