"Suicide" bomber? Suicide is a singular act of taking ones own life. Wouldn't a better term be Homicide Bomber, or Mass Murderer Bomber? Why do we glorify this act of mass murder?

For those of you who think the term Suicide is accurate, my point is when a gunman walks into Virginia Tech and kills people and then himself we don't call him a suicide gunman do we?

Good question! Probably Liberals who try to make light of all hideous acts! Suicide bombers should be called mass murderers as they really are! Actually they should be called muslim mass murderers!

It brings home the notion that the bomber isn't going to be deterred by law enforcement efforts.

They tried to call them homicide bombers a few years ago, and it came off sounding redundant and silly.

There have been suicide attacks and charges throughout the history of warfare. It speaks to the state of mind of the fighters involved. Nobody is glorifying it over on this side.

I just suppose the term is this to let others know that it was usually strapped to that person and that they fully intended to take their own life as well as others. The Uni-bomber would be a homicide bomber or Timothy McVay (sp). These people strap it to themselves and blow themselves up to hurt others, in other words, totally insane. I do not see it as a glorifying term and I don't think others do as well. Suicide usually implies you were crazy and unstable just like homicidal or other terms of killing....

The VA tech guy is different bc he did not walk in there with the definite purpose to kill himself TO kill others. He waited hours before killing more people, then killing himself. That is why it was called a "mass murder ending in suicide", bc we do not know with 100% that he planned to kill himself after killing the girls in the dorm. I am not sure how you can't see the difference.

The only good thing that comes out of a person who blows themselves up in order to kill lots of innocents is at least they die too.
Maybe we should have a National Suicide Bomber day where all of the terrorists meet and blow themselves straight to hell.

And you're right.
It should be called by what it really is.

Homicidal Bomber would be more fitting a name for what those savages do.

Suicide bomber denotes that they are killing themself. Many people do this for religious reason and the usually the religions of these people prohibit suicide in any form. So its a nice little way of reminding them that they are going to hell.

I don't think that suicide bomber is an inaccurate term. Calling a suicide bomber a martyr is inaccurate.

I don't see how "suicide bomber" glorifies the act or the criminal. It differentiates someone who sets off bombs from those who are themselves the bombs, who deliberately use their own death to kill others as well.

The term 'homicide bomber' is a tautology, and as such an even greater idiocy.

We don't GLORIFY it...

But it's called "suicide" bomber, because the bomber is also killing himself.

You can bomb someone without committing suicide and you can committ suicide without a bomb. How is 'suicide bomber' glorifying them?
