I lived in the "hood" for a couple years because that is the only place I could go. But anyways I picked up the habit of listening to rap and although I hardly can relate to anymore the atmosphere it projects though its energized style appeals to me. What type of feeling do you get from rap meaningless or meaningful lyrics just the genre as a whole?

Constructive critizism is okay. You can talk junk about any genre of music. Most music is complaing of some sort or bragging so thats why I look to the whole of the music instead of focus on whoever is doing the b1tching in the song.

Sorry about the poor grammar and spelling, its about 1am here and I can hardly focus on the screen but I had to get my pc fix in for the night.

Thanks to all responses as I agree with a great majority of them. I must admit I would love to hear a genuinely talented rapper with a positive message or one that addressed issues more important than the booty on his hoe.

I, being an African American, find rap music a big disgrace to our society and history. I can't identify with this music because it promotes the negative aspects of African American culture: gangs, thugs, drugs, sex, violence, etc.

Rap seriously needs to clean up it's act and promote something different to educate our youth that being a 'thug' is not cool.

When I was a teenager I listened to rap like Snoop Dogg, 2pac, Easy E, 3 6 Mafia and so on. I've listened to rock and alternative for the last 8 years and prefer it to rap. However I do occasionally listen to a little rap every now and again cause the old stuff still is good. I can't stand ANY of the new rap. I can still relate to some of the lyrics of the older rap songs. I used to smoke weed and ride in the old lowrider cars. Just because I don't do that stuff anymore doesn't mean I can't relate to it.

Rap is not my idea of good music, although I have heard a few tunes that were rather catchy or just plain good. Generally I look at the individual song rather than the genre but admit that I don't listen to stations that play a lot of rap or hip-hop.

The vast majority of people in the US do not listen to it, only the young rebellious blacks and the young impressionable white kids that want to pretend to be like them.

IMHO, when they rap, they talk too much about killing cops and treating women like dirt, calling them whores and bitches. The beat moves you and some of the music is pretty good, but the lyrics are wrong.

I liked Will Smith's rap when he was with DJ Jazzy Jeff. It was fun music. Rap is not fun anymore, it gives the impression that all young blacks hate cops and women and love drugs and so keeps the rift between the races open with little chance for healing.

i think if you dont like rap its because you have no rhythm and you can find that out by looking at the ppl who can't even nod their head to a beat correctly or cant understand what a rapper is saying or can't respect underground rap music but the genre is not for everybody but mainly for black folks and the ppl who grew up listening to it

I LOVE Rap, and I find that there are meaningful lyrics and artists, although i am completely aware that there are worthless pieces of crap out there that stupid people are not only listening to, but buying, my perfect example would be that Lil Mama song Lip gloss!

Personally, I think everybody has their own favorite genre of music. I don't think anyone should "hate on" rappers and sh*t because everybody grows up differently, and goes through different challenges that they can make music about. Every genre should be appreciated whether you like it or not, because those people started with a dream and accomplished it. Music artists can't please everybody. I listen to EVERYTHING. Country, Rap, R&B, Rock, etc. because I find what I can relate to, or something to just dance to. =]

I do not care what most people think about rap music but in my point of view it speaks the persons way of life and their hardships and they speak the truth and keep it real. The beats are also why I listen and to me it helps me chill and gives me a peace of mind where i can actually feel what the person is saying. It just sounds good.

i love rap music

people say rappers always curse and this and that and some of it is true, but who hasn't wanted to call a woman a B at some point in their lives. Not trying to sound mean but its the truth. Rappers tell what they feel and they tell it to everybody if you dont like it dont listen

I LOVE rap!!! That is the pretty much the only thing I listen to. People say a lot of negative things about rap, because yes they do talk about drugs and sex A LOT but did they EVER stop to think about the sweet *** beats or without it, the clubs would not exist??

Old school Three 6 Mafia (like 2000, 2001) or anything screwed and chopped is my absolute favorite!!! Underground ANYTHING is where all the talent is at!
