We Republicans do more than you think!
I for one, do, in fact, care for the poor, by sending through charity organizations at our Church, who send the money to help the poor and needy in areas that need it the most, i,e. to Africa!
The problem we have here in America, is most of the people are in fact on welfare and want only to get by, by bumming off of society, and undermining our rule of Law.
This country would not be in near the shape it is in, if people would actually take an interest in our Great country and contribute to society a little, instead of being a BUM!

You're asking the wrong question, which doesn't surprise me. The left has been asking the wrong question for years when it comes to poverty. They want to ask, "What can we do for you?", when they should be asking "Why are you in that situation?"
Things don't happen in a vacuum, and there are reasons for everything. Do you care why this person is poor? Is it because they didn't do well in school? Is it because they are somehow disabled? Do they not have adequate job training?
You think throwing money at someone proves you care, but all that does is allow them to continue surviving. If you really cared, you would want them to get out of poverty and would provide them with the means to do it. The problem is that Democrats will never do that, because as long as they are poor, they still need the Democrats. Isn't it ironic that Democrats have been for 'poor inner-city blacks' for more than 40 years and these people are still poor? As long as they keep voting for them though, why would they want to help them?

1. Chinese and Mexicans do everyday jobs! Not just crummy jobs like some people do (sewer cleaning, home repairs(yes, a messy job) and more) they also work at places like Taco Bell or the Mandrin (local chinese resturaunt here)!
2. It's called personal responsibility for those people to get their lives out of the gutter! It IS possible you know!
3. You tell people you want them to answer intelligently but with no quotes, while you repeat what others have said!
4. As for the first question, a hell of a lot more then a liberal ever will.

Simply giving away free money to those who dont earn it has historically proved to be absolutely fruitless. Our welfare state today is larger than ever before, thats millions of untapped human capital that may never see an earned paycheck and provide no value to society. Foregn aid has also shown to be fruitless since again, the people who dont work arent productive in producing, inventing, developing. Thats what true wealth is, not money. Its the wondrous things human ingenuiety produces and will produce as society continues advance. Capitalism provides the pathways. Yes Conservatives foster this outlook. Democrats work hard to retard advancements.
Oil prices have increased. the same oil we used to hog exclusively, now has chinese and indian demand for it. Oil companies dont ahve the economic incentives to produce more refineries and rigs to get more supply.

I know this probably wont be what your wanting to hear but i will say it. I'm not either a Republican or Democrat to start with. They simply don't care about the lower middle class and the lower class. Dem's say there for Health Care for everyone etc.. Rep's say they give tax cuts to middle working class to open business etc....They just care about there own pockets being filled with money. The kind of President we need will never have the backing(money from lobbyist etc..) to make it.

I'm poor and I don't even wonder about those sorts of things.
I know it is up to me to make my situation better and I think about how I need to go about doing that everyday.
However, hillary's last health care 'reform' really hurt me and I do think about that ALOT.
EDIT: I'm poor because I have a chronic illness that puts me in bed for 1-3 months every year and I still don't think in those terms.
Plus, I am always the first to give the shirt off my back to anyone in need. I often get my paycheck and immediately start thinking about who I can give a small share to.

Growing up, did you ever work really hard for something... and when you finally earned it how did you treat it or take care of it? Did it inspire you to make it better or set a goal for the next thing?
Growing up did you ever get something handed to you with no effort on your count? I'm sure it was nice to get and made you feel happy for a brief while... but I bet you didn't gain from it or I bet you were not as proud of it as you were when you did it on your own....
or, if someone met you half way and helped give you that extra push as you worked hard to make it... then helped you acheive the goal mid way through your efforts.
Point is... no one really benefits from a hand out. That is why Forrest rangers ask that you don't feed the animals. After a while they get lazy and dependent upon people to feed them rather than doing it themselves. This puts them at higher risk in the winter months when few people are camping. Make sense?
Finally I will give you a reference here to check out. Who does more for the poor... the Republican... or the Democrat?

The republican conservatives will put them to work, at least those that are able to work, those that are crippled or to old should continue to get welfare but why should I have to work and pay into a system that rewards laziness?
Most people are poor because they choose not to work, they feel the world owes them something, you know like the liberals, they don't want to do their part, they want to take from those that have and give it to those that do not have.
You can not blame society for their lack of education, there are plenty of education assistance programs so they can get better jobs.

As a Republican I believe that you can achieve anything by working for it. No one gave me what I have, I earned it. Before you start with the thumbs down, my grand parents were immigrants who picked fruit and lived in a farm labor camp. Through hard work, that they taught me, I have formed a successful general contracting business. To paraphrase Jesus, teach a man to fish and he will eat every day.
