I really don't want to bring it w/ me because is just too much to carry. Is it necessary?

I just came back from a 10 day vacation in Montana and before leaving I also questioned whether I should bring the carseat and base.

I ended up bringing it and it worked out great! The airport checks the seat base in seamlessly as they would with all luggage. It's tagged and bagged. In terms of the carseat, we brought along the stroller that went with it and the stroller (w/carseat) were checked as we walked on the plane and were waiting for us when we walked off the plane.

We had a couple layovers going out and coming home and we had absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I recommened bringing as much as you can that the baby is familiar with - if you rent a car, you can rent a car seat...however, beware that sometimes rental places drop the ball and you could be left without a carseat which is very dangerous. I didn't want to take that chance so we bought our own and it worked out well.

By the way, our daughter was also 2 1/2 months old as well when we went to MT.

Good luck and have a blast in Hawaii!

Hi!

The Car seat is necessary if you're going to be driving anywhere with her in Hawaii. It's illegal to transport a baby any other way. I think most airlines will allow you to check the car seat though as part of the baby's luggage. Check with your airline.

But as for the flight:
My Baby was just over 2 1/2 months when I took her from Rome to California. She stayed in my lap the whole time and at that age was just sleeping and nursing so having her in my lap was easy and I saved $ too. (I didn't take her car seat with me because we already have on in CA.) Call your airline now to reserve a bassinet for the flight which will make it a little easier for you.

Have fun in Hawaii!!! Wish I could come too!

As far as for the plane ride, you don't need the car seat at all. I have 3 kids, now they are a little bit older, but when my husband and I traveled, kids that are under 2 years of age are considered to be lap babies, so you don't have to purchase an additional seat for the plane. Now if you are renting a car, like we did, you can just rent a car seat from the car rental company you will be using, but let them know in advanced that you will be needing a car seat for your baby as well with the car, this way they can put in infant car seat on hold for you.

Have fun in Hawaii : )

If you plan on driving around the island, I would. Are you renting a car? Because if you are, you can park your own car at the airport in the city you're leaving. And then pick up a rental car in Hawaii with a car seat. And then you don't have to bring one. That's what we do.

Will you be holding the baby the whole trip?
Call the airlines and see what they suggests.

Also once you get there you will need a carseat when you go to a rental car or however you will get around. Also an unbrella stroller works great.- in Hawaii that is

Take the seat for the safety of the baby, and if you don't have to use it, it can be stored away until the flight is over. That is a long way to fly holding a baby the whole time.

Yes. It will help on the plane for her to have a seat for safety and for nothing else, you will need it once you leave the airport. In a cab, in a rental car, etc.

if you are going to be in a car at any given time, yes!....you never know when a car accident will occur....i got into a car accident when my son was three....and if he were not in a car seat, he would not be in my life anymore....when i see people in cars with their kids not in car seats, it makes me sick to think their kids may die due to their negligence
