Sometimes, different environments and people can influence others.
Obviously, her moving has made her have a personality change. Maybe, she feels the need to fit in...and conform.
The older she gets, the more she'll realize how to just be herself.

The brain is a muscle and if you don't use it you lose it.
Also you are who you hang around with. Look at your friends and you will see someone like you. A news report came out yesterday saying that the fatter your friends are the more likely you are to be fat. The less your friends use their brain the less you end up using yours.
I have a bit of a mania for Yahoo Answers (just see how many points I earned this week by mousing over my Avatar). It is one way to expand my brain and to keep me thinking. My writing has also improved. When you contribute as much as I try to you cover a lot of subjects and you have to back your statements with either a good argument or facts. If not someone will call you upon it. This keeps me a little sharper.
I have helped a lot of people through this board and I have been corrected a few times for mistakes that I published on the board. All of that teaches me and keeps me thinking. I have a higher than average IQ so I need to spend more time working to keep it high. Reading helps, as does watching news shows and documentaries, but working on Yahoo Answers helps to stretch my mind.
I have a good friend who is less intelligent than I am, mainly due to a reading problem. I can either dumb myself down to his standard, try to come off superior to him, or offer to help him learn to read so he can reach my level; I chose the later. While I may be smarter than he is I am not superior to him. Before I met him I had no friends, I never was any good at making friends. Now I have a firm friend and when I showed him that I cared enough to not laugh at him, for his short comings, and to try and help him, I became one of his best friends. That’s why I say the only dumb question is the one that is never asked. I will attempt any topic that I think I can give a good reply on, so I don’t have a frequent contributor tag; I contribute to too many topics. I also don’t give the short and easy answer. I work to make the best answer I can and I strive to get selected as the best answer. So I spend my brain power to keep it up to par, and when I am in a situation where I can’t expand it I look for a way to do so.

Actually, yes, and in puberty/menopause, common sense tends to "break down" in us.
also, the more intellectual you are at things like math and science, generally the less common sense/street smarts/intuition you will have.
The answer is yes, but you dont give any examples, so Im not sure if yes is the actual answer as it pertains to you in this matter.

Yeah...I've seen smart people throw it all away on drugs or alcohol...maybe they got burned by someone or something or encountered some bad sh*t and couldn't deal....what a waste when that happens!

There is common sense smart and then there is book smart. She is probably book smart. Common sense is not something you learn in school.

She may be trying to act dumb in order to look cute or fit in with some other people. If she IS really intelligent she may fear others wont like her for being more succesful than them.
