I would not recommend that, unless you want an early death or a life as a cripple. Get a penetraing oil such as liquid wrench or croil and soak the bolts and threads. I would also recommend using a steel brush to remove dirt and rust from the protruding threads. Also, you will need an impact wrench to loosen the bolts and remove the the straps. Let the penetrating oil soak overnight if necessary. Get a good impact wrench. Begin to loosen, if you hit a tight spot, reverse the procedure, tigthen the bolt or nut , then loosen again. Everytime you do this the nut will come off just a little bit further. That's the way to take it off. If worse comes to worse, you can cut the straps with an air chisel, but use that as a last resort.

I think you migh be in the running for the 2007 Darwin award.
Seriously though this seems like a terible Idea. if the bolts are frozen, mabey use a cold chisel to spit the nuts, or even a grinder would be less dangerous than a torch.
if you are bound and determined to use a torch to cut your straps off, what i have seen done out here off shore is fill the tank with water so that there can be no explosive vapors inside the tank.
still, i would try just alittle bit harder before bringign the torch out.

I wouldn't. from what I understand the commercial shop down the street from me blew it's concrete walls right out due to the fact they decided to do what you're thinking. I think possible some electrical tools would cause a spark too. I know when my son had a bucket of gasoline and threw a match in it nothing happened. I think he said it's the fumes that are dangerous. I wouldn't chance it. I would go with the one suggestion you already received and used manual snips. If you're worried about replacing the straps I find that the wide banding factories put on shipping crates work as gas tank straps.

Only if you alert the news media ahead of time so we can all watch the fire ball and explosion on TV.
I'd recommend using some tin snips or shears or one of those cheap pneumatic cut off tools.
Good Luck!

this is not a good idea ,fire and gas don't mix well a die grinder will cut the bolts off of it ,but it will still make a lot of sparks,id suggest you do everything possible to get the bolts loose on ,anything but cut them,no torch, good luck.

if you want to be sent through to China.
Try using WD-40 or another lubricant to get the nuts holding the straps to break loose.

I really don't think that is a good idea. Use a hammer and a chisel or something else but don't use the torch.
Good luck
